So you think that when the powerful use their position to bully others, that's OK?

That disrespect does not invite disrespect?

That when someone in a position of power does something reprehensible, it doesn't give some degree of permission for others to do the same thing?

You are right that we are our own captains. We are responsible for ourselves. But for a lot of people, if they see the boss fiddling a bit on the expenses, they think it is ok if they do it too.

This isn't about the people like you who know the difference between right and wrong, and who would do the right thing even if they saw a bad example. It is about a lot of people who aren't as admirable as you. There are a lot of people who are influenced by people in a position of power. That might not be admirable, but it does happen.

Oh wow .... that's an impressively delusional understanding of the reaction to her speech.

I don't think you can have any appreciation, at all, for the true awfulness of her posturing. Take it from someone who's technically on her side ... she made an absolute fool of herself, and reinforced the arrogant disconnect and incomprehension that Hollywood has with the reality of ordinary lives.

Few here would suggest Trump doesn't deserve criticism. I can't stand the man, personally, and don't care for anything about him politically or otherwise. But a megarich ivory tower dweller telling us how to feel about our ordinary lives is outrageous. There is no getting around that.

A position of power is not the same as a position of authority. And no, bullies in power do not turn the people into bullies. Travel a little, and you'll understand this.

Even though here in CA my vote for Trump did not help him in the least, I got out to vote and now this country can recover where we all can try to help make America great again. Once he is sworn in, time for Democrats to stop whining and get over it and watch him work magic.

I think many fathers feel that way about their daughters, and frankly I think that the media by trying to make Trump seem like a pervert for hugging and kissing his daughter offended a lot of them. When someone asked him which daughter he loved the most he said you're talking about my baby there. They all know he loves Ivanka the most.

I would submit that such people are very much in the minority. I've been to, and lived in, countries ruled by far worse bullies than Trump, and the ordinary people are just as decent as you and I. Their 'bad' people exist in exactly the same percentages as they do in America, sometimes less.

once again .... super rich, insulated, white American expresses her disgust - not at wars, hunger, disease, or crime rates, but at the hurt feelings of a journalist. she COULD have used her time and platform to ask her fellow privileged egomaniacs to cease and desist the divisive posturing, and to come together in the interests of a peaceful and united future.

I felt the only way the situation in the world could change would be through the American people, and then Trump turned up. He is a bully, and egotistical at that, which means that there was no way Soros and the Trotsky war mongering ideologues would be able to persuade him to do anything that would go against his core beliefs as an American.

Even my family thought I was nuts at the time, and to be honest I couldn't have imagined myself thirty years ago wanting Trump for president, (I am from NYC and he was always so flamboyant), but I saw him as a God send. He still has a big battle ahead of him.

My original response to this thread is from the reaction I've seen by those on the right on social media, as well more far-right members here. It was not delusional in the least.

It was a Hollywood Foreign Correspondants dinner. The audience was full of reporters, not actors or directors. Her point was for them to fight for the freedom to do their jobs with respect to this administration.

While I see Trump mocking the reporter, it has nothing at all to do with this alleged disability. Trump waved his hands as the reporter is alleged not to be capable off and went full bore at his words.

Isn't it funny how this issue was not a huge deal for republicans? We really did not follow each speech made by Trump. There were many of us who wanted as president a person that had ran government.

We wanted it to end, selecting those such as Obama who also never governed prior to presidency. There is merit to the argument we should select among the experienced the top person. I ran down the Obama presidency a lot in his early years. I realized Obama was not prepared. Obama himself admits he was not ready for prime time. Look up his speech at the dedication of the Bush 43 presidents library. There he speaks to the fact one does not simply become president even on day one of him being president. President in name does not mean president in actual skill and know how. A seasoned Governor has done most of the things the POTUS does. Ergo i wanted one of those. Governors get 4 to 8 years of on the job vetting.

But Trump has exceptional management skills.

It is what it is. We will watch him grow. If he won't grow, he is doomed.

Carter should have been an exceptional president. But look how he failed. I believe, since at the time, a loyal Democrat who voted for Carter, and watched him fail, I am in a unique position to criticize him.

That's a hoot. They issued Barack Obama a nine years long free and total press pass (issued when he was still just candidate Obama back in 2008 but now all of a sudden they are interested in HAVING journalistic standards and ethics and integrity? No wonder nobody believes a damn thing that any of them say or write any more -- or nobody outside of leftists.

Actually, he's VERY happy! He's a multi-billionaire, he has been married to some of the most beautiful, intelligent women on earth, his children are exceptional people and now he's president.

Don't hate just because he fights like a democrat! Obama spent 8 years fighting with the police, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Fox news. What a little man he is.

I can appreciate them fighting the Obama team, but Trump has yet to serve as president.

Streep is a vicious woman. Thank god she seems to be the only narcissist actor that used her time to whine.

This quite a challenge for Trump to ease the immigration issue,
but he already shown that he could backtrack and flip flop if it is required, perhaps he could reconsider for if he ought to industrialize the US later he might need again these folks.

    Tell us then...

Why are democrats opposed to ridding the rolls of dead people?

Why are democrats opposed to voter id laws.

We all know it's because liberals want to cheat.

I ask those wailing about popular vote to consider how many states Trump won, and the far fewer won by Hillary.

Presidents are there to cover all states. Not merely those with enormous population. We in CA handed the popular vote to Hillary.

Since it did her no good, why bother to keep talking of the popular vote?

When do Democrats intend to master how those elections are won?

And they encourage illegals to lie and vote. They oppose any law that would preserve voter rights.
