Once again this is an example of how the actions of the few compromise the freedoms of the majority. Some people are too irresponsible to plan to be able to pay for the healthcare of their children, so then the government has to take over this role. As you can see it's a trade-off if you start moving in either direction.

Well you were very lucky to have had parents who were well and able enough to support 6 kids without assistance. Not everyone is so fortunate. The disabled, the widowed, the new (legitimate) refugee, etc. The purpose of socialised medicine and education - two of the greatest achievements of mankind and a sure sign of our ongoing evolution beyond the rude beast - is to level the playing field, giving everyone access to the same resources, to be utilised or not, as they see fit. When these two resources are in place, NO ONE can complain, and EVERYONE can get ahead. It reduces our trajectory to choice alone. I thought you Rightist types were all for that kind of thing? it probably does cost more these day, and that is the reason we must switch to Republican capitalism. Do you understand that when people shop with their own money , and suppliers compete on basis of price and quality, there is competition to lower price and raise quality as much as possible? Actually, what happens when medicine is dollar driven is that quality suffers. Corners are cut. Doesn't matter how much competition there is, corporations involved in healthcare will always be looking to lower overheads. When healthcare is nationalised, quality is guaranteed. Only govt can be trusted to maintain standards, because they'll do so regardless of changing fiscal climates and fortunes.
