Well the most faux outrage story from 2017 continues into 2018. Apparently the NFL is now requiring players to stand for the anthem, if out of the locker room during the anthem.

The true irony in this is that forcing someone to stand during the anthem or be subject to fines is more anti-patriotic act than kneeling during it (for those that argued it was anti-American in the first place - I disagree with that notion however).

Somehow, I have a feeling this isn't the end of the story. It'll probably be heard before the Supreme Court if it continues at this rate.

Look the players have the right to speak their minds. But the NFL has been known to fine players for not following a dress code. So requiring them to stand during the National Anthem is not violating their free speech. They have the right to stay off the field.

The owners are simply stating that their conduct of kneeling is hurting the business...so use your free speech on your own time...when on the field, you're there to play football. It's what you're paid to do, and paid handsomely for playing a game.

Drummed up conspiracy by a bunch of rabid morons too unintelligent to realize this all was bought and paid for by the military. It's not real patriotism.

IMHO, I don't especially care, because football sucks anymore compared to soccer anyway.

Want to protest? Do it in the locker room.. You represent the team when you put on that uniform.

Alright, forced participation gives a false sense of patriotism.

I have mixed feelings on this. On one hand it looks like unity when everyone is all cult-like with their hands over their hearts. Otoh, there are very few venues where people can voice concerns over social issues.

    They're not being forced.

They can still be degenerates, they just have to do it in the locker room.

And you're right this wont be the end of the story, these scumbags will find other ways to spread their message of hate.

Off the top of my head I can think of three things they'll do to keep spreading their hate.

They'll toe the line as far as the new rule goes - if it says you have to stand they'll stand by they'll do something like lock arms and keep their heads looking at the ground.

We'll probably see various players wearing unapproved clothing on the sidelines with some emblem or maybe some thugs named embroidered on it.

And I'm guessing they kneeling will work its way into various touchdown celebrations and alike.

This would be like telling Rosa Parks - "You want to protest? Do it in the back of the bus." One of the points of a protest is to be heard so you can bring attention to the matter at hand.

What company did Rosa Parks represent?

    Talk about a bad analogy...
Are you suggesting NFL players can not protest on their own time? Their name is not big enough in this day of social media?

I was wondering how long it'd be before this got here and how long until the white knights of Trump showed up in full force.

At this point, the NFL makes stupid decisions every year for one reason or another, so them making another few this year is the same as pointing out that water is wet. In fact I'm surprised it's just a fine and not full-blown suspensions for players because I can totally picture that happening now.

They're peacefully protesting racial injustices against African Americans and somehow that's considered "spreading hate." Good grief, what a warped misconception.

The NFL is concerned about bottom line.. They fine players constantly for celebrations they think might offend someone why would this be different?

Worst part is the mass protest on week 3 of last year was just as a "fck you" to Trump and almost none of them planned on dragging it out beyond that. In fact by the end of the season it was hardly brought up, but now they apparently thought it was necessary to bring this back up again for some reason.

I am pretty sure their bottom line will be fine regardless considering a network just paid them a billion dollars to broadcast one game a week.

They are not entitled to use this sports related, non-political venue to shove their idiotic views, absurd protests and bogus grievances down the throats of the paying public.

Is it really that hard to understand?

If they want to protest, they earn more rhan enough to pay for commercials, ads and American flags to burn out of their own pocket.

They're doing it on their bosses dime. No one has any right to do that without consequence at the jobsite. The NFL found it hurt their business, so they're putting a stop to it. Do it on your own time.

She worked as a secretary for a local NAACP chapter. What's your point?

It wouldn't be nearly as effective if they would. Protests aren't scheduled so they don't annoy or inconvenience you.

Like I said, they make dumb decisions year in and year out, so this really isn't out of character.

I was wondering how long it'd be before something showed up with a KKK reference.

Less than an hour from the trigger point.....
