Jon Schaffer, a guitarist and songwriter for the heavy metal band Iced Earth, entered his plea during a hearing in federal court in Washington, D.C. The plea agreement, which comes 100 days after a mob of Trump supporters violently overran the Capitol, marks a significant step for prosecutors in the case.

At Friday's hearing, U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta walked Schaffer through the plea agreement and the charges."Are you pleading guilty, Mr. Schaffer, because you are in fact guilty, sir?" Mehta asked."Yes," Schaffer replied. Mehta said the agreement stipulates that Schaffer fully cooperate with investigators, including providing testimony and witness interviews.

So much for a slap on the wrist.

The two charges against him carry a maximum sentence of 20 years and 10 years, respectively, although the judge said that — in light of the plea agreement — Schaffer is facing from 3 1/2 to four years under sentencing guidelines.

I'd also read that prosecutors are willing to enroll him in the witness protection program if he chooses - which means he's going to be spilling serious dirt as part of his agreement.

It's not about it going away, it's about it(like everything else related to the criminal courts) will depress team Democrat. There was no insurrection, there was no plan. There was a riot. And just like Russia-gate, this is going to hang over us forever as people/prosecutors can't even accept that fact.

You're jumping the gun. You know none of that to be true. Indeed, plea deals aren't going to be offered because it was as you describe. There's obviously more to this we're not aware of yet.

My hangup with it, is due to the obsession that had surrounded it. And quite frankly, it's the same obsession towards everything else around Donald Trump. For the sake of the country, these prosecutions should conclude with the rightful sentences as quickly as possible, rather than try to sniff out for a plot that might not exist.

There was definitely a plot, at least among some. How big or how organized it was ,we’ll have to wait and see? Regardless stiff penalties, and a stiff message should be sent to anyone who thinks this riot, insurrection, whatever anyone wants to call it was a good idea.

Yes, I speak up often on here on how the right, especially white men are often public enemy number one, especially in the media, while the left and minorities are often given a free pass. That doesn’t mean I won’t speak out against white men or anyone else that does something reprehensible, like what happened at the Capitol. I can do both.

I'd say 10 years at least and more like 20. These people are dumb AND mean. They need to be put away forever but failing that we need to make sure they are in prison at least until they're too old to cause much trouble, for you can be sure they will try.
