Somebody with your approach may well do more toward reducing the number of abortions, and percentage of abortions that happen each year, than somebody else who has a simplistic and dogmatic belief that a legislated ban on abortions is the only way to approach that issue.

Interesting phenomenon this is. Normally it is when you "question" or conflict Dogma (kicking in the "fear factor" - worry that if the "do not believe" they will be tortured for eternity in afterlife) that this spiral of denial kicks in. Strange that when they hear that their bodies contain many bacterial cells that this would cause this reaction.

Bacteria have an interesting evolutionary traits. We refer to these as "Consortial activities" (group activities. This is when bacteria act together - not just two bacteria as in where two different bacteria are required to catalyze some reactions. (say reduction of sulphate coupled to the oxidation of iron).

There are some activities that the whole consortia (a whole city of different bacteria) is engaged in. It is like there is some kind of collective consciousness at work.

Strangely - this is an area of bioscience that is relatively new despite having major human health implications. The study of environmental bacteria was all the rage back in the mid 1800's. It then fell out of favor as medical micro took over (looking at a single disease causing organism - think petri dish).

Things got so myopic that in the 1980's a State water association put out a document that claimed "groundwater is sterile". This is absurd nonsense on a mind boggling level.

Since then things have greatly improved but, medical micro is still mired in the past. Hence the over prescription of anti biotics. Doctors are friggen idiots in relation to the symbiotic relationship between bacterial consortia and the human body.

Now we are finding out that all kinds of diseases are caused by lack of paying attention to this relationship.

According to a recent article http://www.cbsnews.com/news/eating-boogers-may-boost-immunity-scientist-suspects/ it's a good idea to eat your boogers in order to maintain a healthy immune system. I suppose you could put some on toast or a piece of candy and chow down. It might cure what ails you a lot cheaper than a doctor/pharmacy visit. It could be advertised as the "Trumpcare Plan".
