The Soviets couldn't afford to have people believing in anything but the Soviets. V. I. Lenin had everyone remove their religious icons and replace them with pictures of himself.

I wouldn't blame "Christianity" for the inventions of the Catholic Church. Especially when it was the Protestant reformation using the original texts of the Christian religion that showed the illegitimacy of the divine rule of the Catholic Church and any King or Queen they ordained with gods authority.

good news, after what the Christians did to the jews

per the link, interesting that the tide be turning there, Atheists out number Theists now

"found that 52.1% of people asked whether they believed in God identified themselves as atheists. This compared with only 10.3% in western Germany.

it's kinda hard for Germany to persecute an entire religion ever again after what they did to the Jews

I'm not making a value judgement on that. Just explaining it as I understand it.

Bavaria is not a city. It's a state that takes up the southeastern corner of Germany. Neuschwanstein (pictured above) is a palace in Bavaria.

a priest was just fired by a republican in the house for talking about helping the poor....

I do not think religion, be it Christians or Muslims, should be mixing with government personally, keep them separate, we do not need biblical or sharia law here

you may want Muslims and Christians pushing religion on us via the government, I do not

Restating a falsehood in new words doesn't change anything. Tens, maybe hundreds of millions of intelligent, educated people are religious.

I don't think this conversation is going anywhere interesting. Are you trying to get a rise out of me? I'm an atheist.

I agree, so many people pretend to believe what the majority believes, it's really pointless to try to say who believes and who doesn't

How educated can someone be when they refuse to open their eyes to anything that falls outside their own limited comprehension? It's like a child going to school and refusing to accept anything a teacher tells him because it's beyond him.

Of course they did, and yet it was a progression from what existed before. This doesn't mean that there aren't times when people start reverting to their pagan roots - like today. But in the end they will self destruct - as they always do, and then the renewal starts as the survivors return to their senses.

Theists always seem to be the biggest issue, especially when they feel people are starting to not believe like them - the time to really worry is then they start to convert or kill

I prefer the American way.. religious freedom for all, the question is... can Muslims and Christians live with that for long

I think it was a regression from what existed before. The Pagans weren't nearly as intolerant. Pagan Rome was much more inclusive and tolerant, for instance, but perhaps it was harder to hold an empire together without the kind of ideological dictatorship that Catholicism provided.

    Gobbledygook.

What evidence is there a personal god exists?

Something or someone created the universe? Perhaps. But a personal god that will help you cheat death? Nah.
    A silly analogy.

Does your pal KGB Putin believe he has an Imaginary Friend?

<gag><spit><cough> People go rogue, then things get set right when folks turn back to believing in an Imaginary Friend. Uh huh. Europe had hundreds of years of Christian rule ... Brunelleschi creating the Duomo in Florence scratched his head in wonder at the Patheon in Rome. Lots of progress there, eh?

25% of Christians, 59% of Jews, and 77% of Hindus in the US have bachelors degrees or higher. Perhaps it's you who needs to be educated.

Oh, then it was the Christians who caused the USSR to collapse? They wanted to kill all those atheist communists. Thanks for letting us know.

According to the definition below, 'education' seems to be highly subjective, depending on a person's cultural values and standards.

So according to your standards, what systematic instruction do you believe constitutes an education? You realize of course, that your standards might not conform with the standards of others? But that's okay, we're superior to them aren't we?

Education - The process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university.

And they scratched their heads at Aghia Sophia. It was built it in 6 years, and it survived in one of the most earthquake prone places in the world for 1,500 years. And while you are at it, check up on the hypodrome, the aquaducts that brought water from 300 miles away, and the underground cistern the water was stored in.

My standards include an understanding of science. A belief in an Imaginary Friend who will help you cheat death is unsupported by any science or logic.

It's not enough for some believers to look at the universe and speculate about a creator. They have to turn it into an absurd tale of a personal savior. The best evidence we have is that you go for a dirt nap and that's it. Educated people understand this.
