"Better their lives?" You mean like....having someone else who earned their money give them some of it?

Not at all.....I have a problem with government manipulating natural market forces to help the poor "achieve the dream of home ownership"....or anything else, for that matter.

If said schmuck got a job he/she would have less to complain about, and would likely be mowing their own lawn than trampling the lawns of others.

Americans have said, in large numbers, that they don't want to prop up anything that has to do with ACORN but this guy will find a way, won't he?

    They always find a way!

Misleading mortgages? The term, read the fine print, predates this crisis. The failure here belongs to the person who took the money.

You sure it wasn't some "special interest" using the gov't to use natural market forces to help the poor?
Again, IMO, the gov't is the puppet, not the puppeteer.

A lot of those schmucks would love to have a job or even get their previous job back. And yes, they would be complaining less and mowing their own lawns.
But most, never had the opportunity to get a job and a good many others lost their job and their house and their abiltity to mow their own lawn.

Why not both? The bank knowing the borrower would never pay it back, and the lendee, who knew they could never pay it back.
But, house prices were rising on a weekly basis, maybe each thought if something bad happened they'd sell it later at a profit. HMMM.

"Told" by who?...some "oligarchy" of evil puppet masters?

    Broadly.....

The primary function of an ethical, properly functioning, constitutionally limited federal government is to protect every INDIVIDUAL'S equal, inalienable, "creator" endowed natural rights....

when government gets in the business of issuing preference to groups, or proves easily receptive to shaping policy around an endless parade of corporate / special interest group influence...

it has seriously breached the "equality under the law" contract, and delved deeply into picking winners and losers.

No society can survive for long under those conditions....as we are witnessing first hand.

On this we agee, and have for several posts now.
How do you want to stop it? Saying limit the gov't just means less money those "special interests" have to spend to get crony capitalism, but get it they will.
We have to end crony capitalism. WS and DC need to be separated.

Frank, Dodd, Waters and the democrats forced the banks into this untenable position. They are still doing it. They told banks to loan to people who would otherwise not be eligible for these homes or loan payments. The Feds promised to back these loans, the banks went along with it because some of them were sleeping with Frank and here's what you get. Frank and Dodd should be in Jail and the OWS should be protesting in front of the capitol building and the white house.

When were they doing this? How did they use force?
OWS can't be in front of the capitol, WS isn't there.

you really dont know anything about this situation do you? It would do you some good to start educating yourself on this.

of course WS isn't in front of the WH. But that is where the protestors should be. It is NOT WS that is the problem. It is the Congress and in particular the democrats and more specific Frank/Dodd/Waters and others.

If you can't trust your bank to give you good financial advice who CAN you trust?

One of the MANY reasons I am a credit union member...

obviously you don't. Do you think i mean twisted their arm physically? They made promises. You do this and we'll do that. YOU MUSt do this because we want all people, even poor credit risks to buy houses. Congress interfered in business that was NOT THEIR purview to do so.

Here is a good post on the subject.
I never believed any of these crooks. But a completely RW controlled gov't did nothing but ask questions. Why did they not take action? Did bush have a platform of putting every american in a home?
This was a complete gov't mess by all parties.
But the gov't only does what they're told to do. They are the puppets, who are the puppeteers?
