acted or thought he was the next Burt Reynolds was in effect a southern cracker
or what I refer to as a " Gator ". Jerry Reid was a gator in all those Burt movies

Yep, you're right. Well, maybe she didn't pay enough "homage" in 2012 like she did in 2008, and so when all that about a Southern wedding and Blacks with white shirts and black shorts came out, somebody decided to torpedo her.

Paula should have remembered that being White and from the South would forever mark her to hyperliberal Black activists as someone who cannot be fully trusted and therefore permanently held at arm's length, no matter how much money she gave Obama, or how actively she campaigned for him in 2008.... You have to be at least part-Black to be a member of "the Club", and only "nigguhs" can say the word, "nigguh"... right...?

 

The word Gator is a favored word in Gainesville, Fl. U of F just loves the word Gator. Thousands of students refer to themselves as Gators.

 

My thoughts, if it is wrong for one person to say the N word it should be banned for everyone. Double standards anyone? How can you legitimately allow one group to use the word but ban it for others?

 

All she has to do is give Hillary a boat load of money for her election and all will be forgiven. Money equals forgiveness for the left. Their morals can be bought.

 

I've never liked her TV persona - the chatty Southern belle with a v. heavy hand on salt, sugar & fat. Her recipes seemed incredibly heavily loaded with calories, & a death-warrant if you actually ate the stuff every day. Then came word that she was diabetic, & that she was taking a position with a pharmaceutical, fronting for their insulin line.

I admire her work ethic - couple of kids, divorced, she worked her way up from catering in her kitchen to a couple of restaurants, food/celeb shows, books, appearances on other celeb cooking shows, her kids are in the biz now too. Still, all that success & acceptance is predicated on her being true to her folksy persona.

She can have all the politically incorrect thoughts she wants - & no one would ever be the wiser. Once she's narrating this stuff to the World @ large, & in the (alleged) hearing of Black subordinates - the public worth of the persona she's spent so much time building up comes crashing to the ground. If her persona didn't match her personality, the cracks in the facade were bound to come out, one way or the other.

So, she's come a long way hawking food that's not good for you, in the long run. I don't know that she can do sufficient penance to return to her old spot in the celebrity Southern cooking pyramid. It may simply not be doable, & I think there will always be some doubts floating around her, if she does manage to rehabilitate her image. That's the price you pay for identifying with your image to the extent that she has.
