    HYPERLINK has full story

    snip

Homosexuals who “marry” each other are almost three times more likely to commit suicide than their heterosexual counterparts, even in very gay-friendly Sweden, according to a study published in the May issue of the European Journal of Epidemiology.

The authors of the study noted that social intolerance of homosexual behavior could not so easily be blamed for increased suicide risk, given that Sweden is known for its accepting attitude towards same-sex relationships
    ............................

The study’s results are similar to numerous other studies in recent years that have found a strong relationship between homosexual behavior and a variety of negative psychological outcomes, even in countries that are very accepting of homosexual behavior...............

Studies done of homosexuals in the Netherlands, which is the country most accepting of homosexual behavior in the world, have found that homosexuals suffer from significantly higher rates of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, substance abuse disorders, suicide attempts, eating disorders, and panic attacks.

    end snip

I find this to be quite curious. We heard how tolerance of the gay lifestyle is all that is needed yet in very gay-lifestyle friendly environments the rate of mental disorders among those living the gay-lifestyle are higher than those living the heterosexual lifestyle.

It appears that even legal marriage does not solve the issue

Any person with common sense would have the takeaway that those who choose the gay lifestyle also have some form of mental disorder as is evident by the higher degree of mental disorders among homosexuals even in areas which embrace the gay lifestyle.

I am now of the opinion that the psychological community performed a dis-service by deeming that living the gay lifestyle was no longer a mental disorder. It's obvious that those who choose that lifestyle have a much higher degree of disorders and we should provide the help that they so desperately need as opposed to simply sweeping them under the rug and calling it "normal".

We as a society should no longer turn our backs on those who choose that deviant sexual lifestyle and must instead work to cure them and provide the help they need so they can live long, productive, normal lives.

Gays in general have more emotional issues. It was once thought society was the cause but it turned out that in gay friendly Scandinavia it was true also.

Doctors are far more likely to commit suicide than the average.

The Elderly have the highest rate of suicide.

I guess according to your logic - we should not allow people to become doctors ... or old.

And according to your logic, the major cause of death is swallowing small amounts of saliva over a long period of time. There are no survivors.

If people can deny their own biological facts, then I'm going to assume those people have other demons to fight off.

Why should only straight people have to suffer through marriage?

Hope my wife doesn't find this post.

Even though as a society in general Sweden is generally more friendly towards homosexuals, it will still have people like you who spout warped hatred towards them, deeming them "deviant" and needing "curing", not to mention the fact that when people like you and "LifeSiteNews" publish your attacks on the internet, they can have an impact anywhere in the world.

Doctors see death all the time. Same reason cops have a high suicide rate.

The elderly faces death more than younger people.

So, going by your line of thought, death is an unusually strong factor for gays.

Then again, maybe it's just two men or two women aren't meant to live together romantically, they realise it, and then they're extremely depressed.

This whole thread's premise is Gays are more likely to hurt themselves so we should persecute them even more, deny them marriage, and tell them not to be gay. Maybe even send them to re-education camps.

If this is not the premise, then wtf is the point of this thread?

    let's be honest here Joe

the article is quite clear from experts in those tolerant nations that "homophobia" is not a factor

Why do you simply wish to ignore the plight of those who choose the gay-lifestyle?

Yet again we see evidence that it's a destructive lifestyle and something is wrong with those folks who choose that style of sex.

We must find the cure so we can help them. Turning your back on fellow man does not help.

frankly it refutes the talking points that you so predictably posted.

It shoots down the concept that marriage and tolerance is all that is needed. It shows that there is something wrong. Is it choosing that sex life which triggers the mental instability or is there mental instability which triggers some to choose that sexual lifestyle?

Either way, they are human beings with a problem and ignoring the problem like you are doing does nothing to help the people.

    It doesn't shoot down anything.

All it does is attempt to passively support a systematic oppression for no good reason.

News flash, Gays don't want your help.

Christians in this country have the most suicides, divorces, commit the most adultery and get the most abortions

in fact republicans support Trump and he has committed adultery and been divorced a few times

I believe we should always say "fake-Christians" when referring to these generally right-wingers...but in America the fake-Christianity is strong in all spectrums. But strongest in right-wing-landia.

Actually we don’t know what the study actually concluded. The article you linked is clearly only based on the abstract alone, presumably because you have to pay to read the full report and they didn’t care about the details. I’m not making any claims about what the full study actually states so I’m not going to spend money on it. I doubt you’ve even sought out the actual report, let alone are going to pay to actually read it in full.

The abstract makes an open statement about attitudes to homosexuality in Sweden; “Even in a country with a comparatively tolerant climate regarding homosexuality such as Sweden, same-sex married individuals evidence a higher risk for suicide than other married individuals.”. That’s certainly not a claim that general or specific discrimination can’t be a factor at all in the suicide rates there and it doesn’t even compare other places perceived as being less tolerant to establish any kind of correlation.

Because there is still no such thing as the gay lifestyle. There are plenty of bad lifestyle choices out there, made by both homosexuals and heterosexuals. Committing yourself to a long term monogamous relationship is generally a indicator of moving away from those bad choices so I see no good reason why it shouldn’t be encouraged. However much you might like to wish it were the case, you can’t simply stop someone being romantically and sexually attracted to people of the same sex and forcing them in to some kind of denial of that could only do more harm than good.

Your determination to define this entirely in the context of choice and lifestyle, completely ignoring any concepts of orientation and thus dismissing a fundamental element of what people are yet again makes you part of the problem.

The purpose of allowing gay marriage was to help give gay people equality under the law. I don't recall hearing that it would solve all their problems, only that it was the right thing to do if we care about freedom.

If gays are more likely to commit suicide the right thing to do is to support them and try to determine why rather than belittle and try to change a core part of who they are. If christians were more likely to overeat and get fat, would that mean that we need to cure christianity or that we should figure out why and try to help them without immediately concluding we should (or could) change their identity?

This article is BS. LifeSte, which is an extremely biased, anti-gay gay organization, claims they got this information from the May issue of the European Journal of Epidemiology. However, they did not post a link to the source. This is always a big clue when someone hides the source. I found the source HERE The problem is, it's an "abstract". To read the article, you have to pay them $39 US. All these clowns did is read the anonymous comments and posted them as if they read the entire article.

This kind of data never occurred to me but it's not really surprising. People seem to have an instinctive understanding of marriage as the highest form of a relationship which reconciles man and woman, to go into a farcical version of it must be depressing even for a homosexual. It would be like a perpetual reminder to them of what they haven't accomplished.

    - - - Updated - - -

So you can't actually say it's wrong, you're just assuming that these people were too cheap and lazy to pay $39 and read the thing (did you?).

For the bulk of the history of Western medicine, homosexuality was correctly labeled as a disease, affliction, an abnormality. Political pressure in the 70s forced science to change despite all the facts.

The CDC can detail all the pathologies that correlate with homosexuality and they are manifold. PC desire can't change it. Gay men have significantly shorter lifespans but as an academic you can insure the loss of your tenure if you attempt to study such a taboo subject.

We are doomed by this prohibition on truth.

I think your argument has some unintentional implications.

These two examples represent stressful situations which clearly have a negative emotional impact on a person's psychology. Being old makes you face the inevitability of death, the frailty of your body and mind, loneliness etc. Being a doctor means you have to see and deal with many unpleasant things, including horrible diseases, terminally ill patients and grieving relatives. Both of them are often highly unpleasant situations and they are commonly recognised to be so. That is the reason why suicide rates among those two groups of people are so high.

So in order for the comparison to be valid, we would have to accept that same-sex marriage is an inherently stressful and harmful situation as well (in which case, yeah, it would make sense to encourage people to avoid it).
