Republicans have repeatedly said they are willing to look past Trump's moral failings because they agree with him politically. I stopped counting how many time's I've read "I didn't elect a boy scout." Obviously most republicans (particularly the evangelicals) see homosexuality as a moral failing. Would they be willing to look past a candidate's sexual orientation they way they look past Trump's countless indiscretions?
Interesting that the only thing you find notable about Buttigieg is his sexuality. I've seen him on numerous shows and he is without a doubt, the best current dem candidate for speaking on the stump about virtually any issue. He could actually pose a credible threat to the more well known and established candidates. Sexual preference won't be the thing that dooms his candidacy.
Because they keep being grossed out by imagining homersexual sex acts all day while they sigh for relief from Gawd...
I don't think that the population of people who care about homsexualty is large enough to make a diff in the race for presidency.
Moral failings only count when they are manifest in Democrats. All Dems are utter moral degenerates and whatever they get caught at is just more proof. All pubs are fine upstanding citizens and whatever moral problems they have just demonstrate them to be fallible humans. It is not double standards, it is no standards whatsoever for our side and utterly impossible standards for anyone else.
I think the same about people who really care about immigration, but itś one more thing to build a party on. The Pubs are a coalition of very vociferous groups who care very deeply about things which most of us think are either totally insignificant or downright nuts. This is why they win elections and then govern the polity directly to hell in a handbasket
David Brooks is a conservative commentator at the New York Times "Why You Love Mayor Pete" https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/01/opinion/pete-buttigieg-2020.html "Why are people so in love with the mayor of South Bend, Ind., who almost nobody had heard of until he did a CNN town hall on March 10? It’s important to remember that when Democrats vote next year, they’ll not only be choosing a policy alternative to Donald Trump, they’ll also be making a statement about what kind of country they want America to be. The Trump era has been all about dissolving moral norms and waging vicious attacks. This has been an era of culture war, class warfare and identity politics. It’s been an era in which call-out culture, reality TV melodrama and tribal grandstanding have overshadowed policymaking and the challenges of actually governing. The Buttigieg surge suggests that there are a lot of Democrats who want to say goodbye to all that. They don’t want to fight fire and divisiveness with more fire and divisiveness. They don’t want to fight white identity politics with another kind of identity politics."
His sexuality will be his biggest vulnerability to republicans. I’m willing to bet that 5 years ago you never would have imagined yourself supporting a politician who says that John McCain isn’t a war hero. Today I suspect you think you could never support a politician who called his opponent a ***. We’ll see how that changes in 2020. Trump is constantly pushing the envelope.
Republicans are not going to vote for him so what is your point? If anyone is struggling with his name it is pronounced Buti-judge.
Agreed, who care what the republicans think about him. Tulsi will gather some republican support for her foreign policy focus appeals to many traditional republican values of strong military but less an expansionist foreign policy.
This isn't about Republicans. Buttigieg isn't anywhere close to going up against Trump. In fact, I'm sure he won't get that far. If he actually begins to pose a threat to any of the main Dem candidates, we'll see if their surrogates try to pull the gay card against him, but right now I get to enjoy the identity politics spectacle that the Democratic primary race is evolving into. So keep up the good work!
We've already had the first black President (Bill Clinton) the first gay president (Obama) and the first woman president (Hillary Clinton) so if Democrats don't nominate the first transgender candidate they will prove they nothing but a bunch of transphobic bigots.
Those who use the did not vote for a Boy Scout trope are people to keep out of your homes, your work force, your churches, and your businesses. They lack the moral virtue associated with being an American. Oh, they should not be allowed within a mile of any Boy Scout activity.
And good for carlosofcali. I'll ask the mods to remove the crucified Christ icon from your blasphemy.
The vast majority of people don't care about a candidates bedroom/gender preferences. That ship has sailed, no matter how hard the left tries to keep it afloat.
You do not reflect Christianity. As a Christian, I am asking you to change your icon of Jesus Christ.
Now you are going to quote scripture? Please consider that you are an affront to Christ. Like a Putin Russian waving an American flag.
You said you would remove the image of Jesus if it offended others. It is extremely offensive since you do not in any way reflect Christ. Your choice. And my choice to put you on ignore.
