Hey, keep using banned words if it makes you feel grown-up. I don't care but ignorance of the rules is no defense. They're at the bottom of each page and the onus is on you to read them and comply.

Bully for you. I prefer to use a varied vocabulary but if swearing is your substitute for not having one fill your boots big man.

Arguments about the future design for the rebuilding of Notre Dame hit the news this week with the General in charge of the reconstruction saying the chief architect should shut his mouth.
The general and Macron prefer a contemporary design while the architect wants it to be restored to what it was.
The final design won't be announced until 2021.

I think the proposed crystal roof garden is beautiful.

That is awesome! It fits in with the original concept and ENHANCES it in a way that the original architects would have embraced if they had the technology.

It has to be noted that the spire which was lost was also a new design, built when ND was restored in the 1850s.
It's a great opportunity to make a real statement about the need to be carbon neutral and showpiece the skills and tech available in modern architecture.
Any attempt to rebuild it as it was would be a replica at best. It's not even possible as European oak is no longer available in the lengths required.
The original roof used the equivalent of 50 acres of forest to build. To cut down that many mature oaks (around 1300 trees) would be a crime in today's climate and natural habitat crisis.

In which case the precedent exists to do something different so there is no excuse.

The roof is a great idea, can we clad the rest of the building in the same material?

Maybe a wind turbine at the top of the spire.

You're on the ground, what is the opinion of your French friends?
    Traditional or contemporary?

If you want a modern building, you can build something new instead of ruining something that is old and beautiful. The cathedral is an iconic symbol of the city, the continent and a manifestation of the true beauty of faith.

The roof will be new either way.
It is perfectly possible to be contemporary and beautiful.
How can you say that this is not a manifestation of the true beauty of faith?

Just because the Catholic faith is a backward-looking medieval relic there's no reason to rebuild the roof to comply with that ideology.
In fact, if the church wishes to move forward and remain relevant in the contemporary world it serves its interests best with a modern design.

Do you think people 850 years ago seeing Notre Dame for the first time said ''it's a bit too modern for me, I prefer a good old fashioned stone circle?

It is as ugly as ugly can be. Very boasty and rather grotesque.

Just because most people of today are post-modern, atheists of bad taste they have no reason to contaminate the beautiful memories of the past with their hedonistic ideology.

Religion and beauty is eternal, so you are wrong here.

I am sure it was love at first sight. Beauty is beauty.

That is the entire raison d'etre of a Cathedral.

No. A Cathedral is the embodiment of beauty. Beauty is not boasty because something beautiful does not need boastiness to convince people.

I have never seen an ugly Cathedral. A great way of turning them ugly is by modernising them.

I suppose Americans do not get this because most European Cathedrals are much older than the States as a nation.

They were built to intimidate the people through the size and power they project. Inside too, dark, loud music, pictures of a man being tortured to death, clerics in robes chanting and swinging candles with incense, services in Latin. You'd behave yourself too if you were uneducated and unable to think for yourself.
