Will you volunteer to go to the homes of each of these people to tell them that their food subsidies won't be coming, but let them know to hang in because they might come in a few weeks or years? Will you volunteer to tell them they're acting like welfare queens and should not rely on their 'sugar daddy', the U.S. government for assistance? If you can do that, then congratulations, you won the 'most heartless person in the world' trophy. Will you tell them that they should have made better life choices?




What makes desperate mothers today any different than this mother from 1936? Is their need for food, shelter and clothing any different today then it was then?

The main thing to keep in mind about this government shutdown is that this inability to get a spending bill that gives Trump billions for his wall isn't something new that just happened. Why wasn't this a national emergency 18 months ago or even 18 days ago, and why hasn't Trump spent any of the 1.5 billion that has already been appropriated for the wall yet? Nothing at all has been done to spend that money on his wall since that bill was passed.

 

Sure, aside from these six illegals are all wonderful people.

What's different today from 1936 is all the Government programs. They were just coming into existence in the 1930's and because they were not done away with once the country got back on its feet they are being abused today.

Look at the last 2 photos, what do you see. What is the real difference between the woman in Oklahoma in 1936 and the woman with 2 children in the photo above her. They are both women. They are both caring for children. They both have a roof (of sorts) over their heads. The only difference is that until FDR created the New Deal the woman in 1936 had no assistance to provide food to her children. One of our basic human needs, she was unable to provide to them. The woman sitting with her children in the photo above has that benefit. They're poor, they're struggling to keep the roof over their heads, but they're fed thanks to the food benefits available to them. This is how it should be. Take note all you Christians. Yes, we are our 'brother's keeper'.

It's proven that Republicans don't care about handicapped or disabled Americans. The Americans with Disabilities Act is proof of that. If it were up to Republicans, Americans that are immobile, have a long term illness, are missing limbs, or blind would go hungry. Thankfully there are people in this country that have empathy and whose creed is "There but for the grace of God, go I." Yes, there are abuses of the system and yes those abuses should be stopped. There just isn't enough manpower afforded these agencies that would enable closer reviews of documentation and applications.

Nevertheless, the Republicans such as Paul Ryan had, see the handicapped and disabled population as merely a drain of their government spending budget. At the same time, Republican cabinet members and the circle of lobbyists around Congress continue to line their pockets with free money directly from our pockets. They have complained about the 'swamp in D.C' but those are the very people that are lining their pockets with gold from our government coffers. They are the biggest, most obvious and reckless swamp creatures in U.S. history.

Democrats will protect and expand the right of Americans with disabilities to get the accommodations and support they need, rather that the Republican commitment to take it away. There are 57 million people in the United States with disabilities. Since the passage of the historic ADA, disabled Americans have been able to more fully participate in our communities. The Trump administration and congressional Republicans actively work to strip away the civil rights of disabled Americans by weakening enforcement of the ADA, decreasing inclusion in schools for those with disabilities, cutting independent living programs, and reducing job training and workforce accessibility programs.

While the EBT card (they are not handed 'money') is only accepted for certain foods, they can spend their money on whatever they want to, which for those who will do it, is quite often crap or expensive stuff. That, unfortunately, is reality. There are, however, some people who receive benefits, and actually do abide by the rules, and spend their money on decent food also. I completely disagree that they should be able to spend it on prepared foods like the crap that comes out of a gas station convenience store.

As I said, I don't think anyone will starve during the shut down, but some will be lacking in quality and appropriate quantity, of food.
