    History is fascinating to me because, as the wiseman George Santayana is often quoted;
"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

Jumping back to 1920, the vote on the ratification of the 19th Amendment came down to one state and then one person, Representative Harry T. Burn, a Republican from McMinn County. Representative Burn was against allowing women to vote and was going to vote against it when he received a note from his mother. He changed his mind and voted in favor of allowing women the same rights as men.

Senator Jeff Flake's decision to qualify his vote of confirmation with an FBI investigation may have similar effect.

    https://www.history.com/topics/womens-history/19th-amendment-1
"The outlook appeared bleak, given the outcomes in other Southern states and given the position of Tennessee’s state legislators in their 48-48 tie. The state’s decision came down to 23-year-old Representative Harry T. Burn, a Republican from McMinn County, to cast the deciding vote.

Although Burn opposed the amendment, his mother convinced him to approve it. Mrs. Burn reportedly wrote to her son: “Don’t forget to be a good boy and help Mrs. Catt put the ‘rat’ in ratification.”

With Burn’s vote, the 19th Amendment was fully ratified.
    "

BTW, a great movie for all of those who support a Free America is "Iron Jawed Angels". If that movie doesn't convince you your vote is important, then nothing will.

Considering liberals don't even own guns let alone know how to shoot them, I don't imagine it will be much of a war.

They'll try to use government to invade your state, burn down your home and leave you to starve. Obviously you can't fight back.

OTOH some of us can. :)

No worries. BTW, if you want to catch any fish, I suggest you stop your boat.

Flake is a neocon asshat. Which makes it easy to understand why you like him.

Just so I'm clear; you think anyone who doesn't march in goose step with Trump is a "neocon asshat"?

Actually, Flake is a fraud, like his friends in the New Democratic Party.

    Ask Spooky.

Ran promising one thing, and once in office, turned a 180.

They despise Flake in Arizona. That is why he's bailing. No chance of being reelected.

As previoulsy noted, the ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920 which gave women the right to vote came down to a 48-48 split in Tennessee. Harry T. Burn was the youngest rep at age 23 and the deciding vote. He was anti-suffragist and was going to vote against the Amendment when he received a note from his mother, Phoebe Ensminger Burn. Reportedly the letter said "Hurrah, and vote for suffrage! Don’t keep them in doubt. I notice some of the speeches against. They were bitter. I have been watching to see how you stood, but have not noticed anything yet....be a good boy and help Mrs. Catt put the ‘rat’ in ratification.” Mrs. Catt was suffragist leader Carrie Chapman Cat.

    https://www.history.com/news/the-mother-who-saved-suffrage-passing-the-19th-amendment
The next day, Burn defended his last-minute reversal in a speech to the assembly. For the first time, he publicly expressed his personal support of universal suffrage, declaring, “I believe we had a moral and legal right to ratify.” But he also made no secret of Miss Febb’s influence—and her crucial role in the story of women’s rights in the United States. “I know that a mother’s advice is always safest for her boy to follow,” he explained, “and my mother wanted me to vote for ratification.”

While the RWNJs appear to be making death threats toward Flake as noted in the link below, he's not solely responsible for the vote, again as noted in the link below:

    https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/event-featuring-sen-jeff-flake-boston-moved-due/story?id=58181881
Matthew Hutchison, senior vice president, corporate communications, for Forbes Media, told Boston ABC affiliate WCVB pending ongoing scheduling, they are in the process of moving the discussion with Flake to a larger and more secure location, possibly the Under 30 Village at City Hall Plaza.....

....Flake thrust himself into the national spotlight on Friday when he forced the delay of a Senate Judiciary Committee vote to recommend Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. After a confrontation with protesters, Flake convinced fellow undecided senators, such as Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., to ask the president to open a weeklong FBI investigation into sexual assault claims made against Kavanaugh

Actually that isn't it. It is the irony of it, that makes it funny. The general rule is, when questioning another's intelligence, it is a good idea not to be making dumb errors in the process. Kind of turns one's attempt at an insult back on oneself. giggle giggle

Why did the voters ever elect Flake? A perfect example of the trouble our country is in.
