And there is a legal remedy to that via the National Emergencies Act.

I'm saying that the number of guns lost by officials is tiny in comparison to the number lost by the general public.

There is NO justification in blocking progress on lost guns on the grounds that it might not solve that one tiny aspect of what is a large problem.

This silly numbers game ALWAYS gets used as if it provided a reason that we can't make progress on public safety.

In traffic, we have guardrails. We diid NOT work out what would be the one perfect guardrail. We analyzed what was reasonably possible given factors such as budget, what would improve outcomes in the majority of cases, etc., etc.

Your demand forr either 0 or perfect has NEVER been considered a legit approach to public safety in ANY context.

    Exactly!

    That's the scary part.

Trump's interpretation is that an "emergency" is literally anything he wants it to be, even in cases where our representatives in congress have already addressed the issue in a way that clearly rules it as NOT an emergency.

EVERY dictator rules through an "emergency act" that says all other representation of hte people is irrelevant.

    What's your point?

The congress made this law so that they could avoid any and all responsibility in a true crisis- they gave the authority and the power to the President along with the power to decide what does or does not constitute a true national emergency. If they don't like it, they can make a law to end it and they can attempt to over-ride and veto from the President. Other wise, you should aim your vitriol at the cowards who set this situation up - the Democrats.

Meanwhile, the wall is getting built.

    Keep America Great!

Whoa there - revisionism might work in your world, but not in mine.

President Trump warned the Democrats time and again that he would declare a national emergency if they did not give him the funds he asked for. The Democrats decided on an "In your face" with legislation that gave him limited funds while setting up a situation that denied his ability to govern. There was NO actual attempt to negotiate - and only the establishment Republicans supported the legislation in their cowardly attempt to avoid another government shutdown.

The wall is being built proving that the Democrats are morons.

    Keep America Great!

I'm not sure how "exactly" is an answer to the question.

If you think it is, then you really don't know the courses available through Congress via the National Emergencies Act. So why have you been avoiding the real question? Do you support repealing the National Emergencies Act?

It remains as Trump overriding the expressed will of congress on this issue.

Dictators ALWAYS threaten others in their government before overriding them. Suggesting that his threats vindicate Trump for his actions is just plain silly.

And, your "in your face" comment is ludicrous. We've had pronounced differences between the president and congress ever since the very first president and congress.

The second worst part of this is that Trump has used a good number of bald faced lies to justify this direction of his. We can't have emergency actions taken on the basis of bald faced lies. That is what got us the Iraq war!

This is NOT about repealing the National Emergencies Act.

It's about using that act to controvert the expressed will of congress.

President Trump IS following the expressed will of the people who elected him to office.

The Democrats are following the express will of the money donated to them from Iran and China and the Cartels while ignoring we the people. The Democrats have proven that they care more for illegal immigrants and sexual deviants than they care for working American families. They would disenfranchise American voters as they support and protect more and more illegal alien voters.

It's actually about the supporting the express will of the American citizens who voted President Trump into office so he could build the wall as he promised. I ask why the congress is ignoring the express will of we the people to build the wall?

I see NO justification for that being considered the "real" question.

    !!!

Well if he's "using" the act, then it's legal, and since you don't want it repealed, that tells me that you support a President using the act to move funds around.

    Just not this President.

So you don't really have any other argument other than "LOL Drumpf!"

The reason people voted for Trump is not the issue when it comes to whether he contravened the will of congress - who were elected by the same country!

The mere fact that he became president doesn't allow him to do that.

Your comment on foreign influence in the context of why Trump was elected is ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS!!!

    More nonsense word games.

Your post is like suggesting someone is "using" banks when they rob them.

And, the funds congress allocated for the military were intended to be used for the military - for reasonable treatment of enlisted men and their families was a significant feature.

That's a pretty ridiculously easy question to answer.

The majority of America does NOT agree with Trump on this issue.

And, America elected a congress that demonstrates that point.

Why should MY representative STOP representing me???

The precedent for overriding the power of Congress to appropriate funds was set 40 years ago? Congress specifically denied Trump the funds for building a wall. Trump wants to go around Congress to get those funds.

Please explain that precedent set 40 years ago.

Why do Trump's fans think just saying something makes it so? When it comes to proof, we get more B.S.

Is traffic a constitutionally recognized and protected right? Were guardrails implemented via the national emergency act?

What of the will of the public of the united states? Congress are the employees who are elected on the promises they make to the public, while the public that elects them are supposed to be the employers who the elected employees must answer to.

Your Representative should represent your will as a voting citizen. Your representative should NOT weight the will of the illegal aliens and special interests over your will.

The two houses of Congress are co-equal with the President - they are not his boss and they do not run the government and they are not responsible for the safety and security of the people as is the President. They can not legislate against the will of the President without a super majority to over-ride a Presidential veto. They control the purse strings up to a limit.

Consider in two years as the President starts his second term and there are no political barriers between him and whatever he decides to do, which is to:

    Keep America Great!

The bill Trump signed to prevent a second government shutdown did not contain funds for Trump's wall. Trump then declared a national emergency and is attempting to go around Congress to get the funds Congress did not appropriate for his wall.

It appears as though the resolution to halt Trump's declaration of a national emergency will pass easily in the House. A number of Republicans agree that there is no national emergency and the resolution is expected to pass in the Republican Senate.

According to reports, however, there are not enough Republicans voting for the measure to override the expected Trump veto. What does that mean? It means the majority of Republicans in Congress are voting to limit the powers of Congress.

I watch a minimum of one hour of Fox News daily. Fox is euphemistically called the Trump Network because it is pro-Trump. For the past ten days as this resolution is heading for a showdown this week I have not heard one Republican address this issue. We keep hearing what Democrats say, but Republicans are mute about restricting their own powers.

If they were going to say anything, at the very least, Fox would publicize their comments. Nothing.

On this and other threads dealing with Trump's wall, his fans do not touch the subject. They don't want to talk about how their Republican representatives are voting to limit their power in Congress. They won't even talk about the horrible precedent Trump would set -- that a liberal President could get his/her funding for a pet project by overriding a Republican Congress and simply declaring a national emergency.

Have Trump and Trump Republicans lost the ability to think ahead to the consequences of their actions?

Come off of it! Congress allowed Obama to set the standard when it comes to EO's and National Emergencies. As much as the establishment politicians want to whine and cry, the precedent has cemented this situation in President Trumps favor. He wins this round and he continues to:

    Keep America Great!

The entire above statement operates on the belief that absolutely no other president of the united states has ever utilized the authority of the national emergencies act. The above statement is based on a false notion, and no new precedent has been set by this course of action.

Oh, really, and what is that limit?

You really have no idea what you are talking about. The power of Congress to appropriate funds is not to be abrogated by the executive branch.

In the federal government of the United States, the power of the purse is vested in the Congress as laid down in the Constitution of the United States, Article I, Section 9, Clause 7 (the Appropriations Clause) and Article I, Section 8, Clause 1 (the Taxing and Spending Clause).

"They control the purse strings up to a limit." :roflol::rolleyes:

Once again, you have no idea what you are talking about. You don't even know what the issue it. It is not about E.O.'s. It is not about national emergencies. It is about Trump going around Congress to get funding Congress expressly denied.

Trump's Lickspittle Legion Senate has lost the ability to think, period. Whenever a stray rational thought enters their thick skulls it is swooped down on by several MAGApies who peck it to death like Tippi Hedren, much resembling what happens to sane posters here.

They're all scared to death of Primary challenges by Trumps base but it isn't going to help them. If Trump is still there in 2020 they will be voted out right along with him. Pity they probably won't have to share a cell with him afterwards but maybe Mueller has actually investigated other people but Trump and they will. I live in hope.
