Sounds to me like you know next to nothing about KSA or its royal family.

Shows how little I know about the vocabulary. The chaps I a m talking about (Imams'?) are reactionary clerics paid for by the Saudis, and my Muslim students - particularly female ones - appear to get no help from them whatever

That's another myth. The SAG doesn't employ any clerics abroad. The Saudis gift mosques (build) for existing Muslim communities.

But conceivably have just a little influence on subsequent appointments? Patrons tend to expect it, I find.

Wiki's emphasis is wrong. The SAG rules by a consensus made up of the family, the merchant class, the technocrats and the clerics. There is no hierarchy in Sunni Islam like in Shia Islam.

The Mutaween are voluntary, have no police powers and are considered pests. They are not allowed at all in some cities.

I said that wiki's EMPHASIS is wrong. The clerics are not in charge and haven't been except for a brief period after the Iranian revolution.. There are some old hardliners in the kingdom who want to go backwards 500 years, but most Saudis are moderates and want cautious progress.

I can't answer each post, so I'm going to say something here. What Saudi Arabia and every other nation does within it's own borders is their own business, unless of course they are committing a mass genocide.... something that is never noticed by our propaganda networks unless it conforms to our political agenda. If it does conform to our agenda, then it becomes a genocide even when it isn't a genocide.

What I do condemn though, is a nation's interference in another country. As far as women's rights in Saudi Arabia I could give a damn, that's their business, and no one should be interfering in what they do. But killing people in Yemen and supporting terrorists in Syria is the world's business.

In this the Saudis are guilty as well as everyone else who is helping them... which of course includes us.

Yes, I know.. but after the Iranian revolution everybody took a giant step backwards trying to out do each other to be the BEST Muslims. For a brief period even Western women were wearing abayas.

It had everything to do with KSA.. The Iranian revolution and the siege of the Grand Mosque in Mecca scared the wits out of the Saudis.. The country took a giant step backwards trying to out-Muslim each other. Everybody in the ME remembers that.

Margot, your prolific posts in this thread are impressive. I wonder what the reward is for the constant cheerleading for SA while keeping the head in the sand on the reality of life in SA for women and for those people who are not a part of the Ruling class.

Quite easy typing from a keyboard in the US as opposed to SA, lol.

Let me know when a female from SA is able to compete in a F1 race.

You simply don't know anything about Saudi Arabia.

SA stands for South Africa, genius.

For more than 15 years Yemen has been infiltrated by Al Qaeda, Boko Haram and other jihadi groups. KSA moved whole villages back from the Saudi -Yemen border and built security fencing to try and keep suicide bombers and terrorists out of the kingdom.. The war came as a last result after decades of financial aid to Yemen. .. and after the jihadis had destroyed Yemen's baby oil business and pipelines.. AFTER 500 Yemeni factories had closed.

As you often do you run your mouth and "condemn" while knowing absolutely NOTHING.

Margot I know that people are dying in Yemen, not only from bombs but from famine and sicknesses as well.

Yes they are dying. War is horrible, but the Saudis have to keep those terrorists out of Arabia.. They have taken in a million Yemeni refugees.

The sunni and shia got nothing in common. It's like saying the protestants reacted to the way the pope got voted in some certain year. It just does not compute.

You still miss the point and the reality.. After the Iranian revolution and the attack on the grand mosque in Mecca the Saudis reacted with stricter practices.

well, you see, women driving might be soo alluring to male drivers that it would cause crashers all over the country as the men are forced to turn their heads and look at the women.

banning women drivers was a neccessary evil, to protect drivers from sexually-motivated rubber necking.

men simply can't be trusted to control their sexual urges, and therefore women should be forced to suffer for this.

    :)

Lol...and it sounds to me like you admire ruling parties that have misogynistic policies towards their women. Which speaks VOLUMES about you as a person, IMO.

Your position on this is ridiculous and pathetic...every respected organization has condemned the human rights record of the SRF. And here you defend the group. I am not wasting another second debating with you on this as your mind is clearly closed on the issue and your ethics on this subject are beyond contemptible.
What's next for you? A thread about how the 9-11 hijackers were misunderstood? How women deserve to be beaten? I am a guy and your views here disgust me.

We are done here...for now. I will not waste my time by reading any more of your posts on this.

    Bu bye now.
