A while back, I read a book by Eben Alexander http://ebenalexander.com/ in which he discusses his experiences with near-death. While the topic was about human consciousness, I was fascinated. But when he jumped from that to religion, I got pretty dismissive.

In order to answer your question, wouldn't we have to first question what exactly this god is? What powers does it have? How would I know it was a god rather than just a part of my consciousness? And so forth...

    I have many questions...

They're really going to hell for the same reason I would if I didn't have faith in Christ's atoning death on the cross, for being a sinner. God is a gentleman, He won't force someone to be with Him through eternity, they just don't realize what a complete absence of God entails.

So that lack of realization is justification for eternal damnation? God sounds like a real dick.
What if anyone who was raised to believe in and follows faithfully on of the thousands of religions found on our planet?

Seriously...What would it take for a GOD to prove itself?

This thread recently popped back into my consciousness. How to answer this question? It perplexed me to find an answer

What would this GOD be? The creator of the universe. Since i cannot conceptualize the universe... i would have even less capability to meaningfully comprehend what ever could “create” this incomprehensible universe

But more to the point, i simply cannot imagine this being caring to prove itself to me. And so i could only come to prove its existence by my own perception

But there in lies the problem. This god must necessarily be beyond my comprehension... while at the same time it must be beyond Caring what i think or believe of its existence.

So, for me, god would, by definition, never be proved

I don't think a deity could 'prove' itself without violating Free Will (making us believe).

God cant be proven unless you would be privy to what form God would present in, how can anyone prove what the other guy doesnt know how to recognize? 8)

That quote means growing up and being able to look at yourself in the mirror and have the determination to improve your character. It is followed by 'These 3 remain, hope, faith and love, and love is the greatest of all.'

God still looks like a human according to the Bible. He got his human body here, died here, and then took his body with him.

If God is a spirit, it would be kind of like trying to figure out what the wind looks like. We can't see the wind, we can only see the effects of the wind.

    He has to identify himself.
He shouldn't impose faith on humans.
He needs neither trickery nor doubts if he's really strong and almighty.

Only a weak God behaves like the Abrahamic God. This is a God who fears man a lot. He fears that he could die if nobody believes in him anymore.

I think God would say the same of you.

Red herring, you DO know about Christ's offer of salvation.

Not true, God loves you, and died for your sins.

If God would hold that opinion of me then he’s not worthy of my praise or belief.
And calling something a red harring is a poor excuse to avoid asking a question. How does God handle those who have been raised to believe in a thing and follow that faith as truth?

I really can't answer that, and see no need to. If I were to guess I'd say men will be judged on what they did with the moral knowledge God has planted on their hearts. Just as there will be different degrees of reward in Heaven there will be different degrees of punishment in Hell.

Here is a more elaborate answer: https://www.bethinking.org/is-chris...what-about-those-whove-never-heard-the-gospel

Given that, I’m sure if there is a God, assuming he exists, he will reward me for the faithful execution of the moral knowledge I was provided. Thanks for clarifying that. Very open minded view.

So God sent God to earth and then had people kill God, so God could forgive people? And this makes sense to you?

Let's have one of the believers here call down fire like Elijah did.

If he did exist, he should stay hidden.
He doesn't deserve any worship for all the death he's responsible for, believers and non-believeres alike.
He's supposed to be omnipotent yet he's either impotent to intervene and prevent the suffering of millions or he's totally ok with it. In both cast he's a ****.

Not insane. Rather an illustration that brainwashing works.

In our human world crimes are forgiven (pardoned) by Presidents or Governors, so to say an all powerful God cannot do what humans do is ludicrous.

The idea of influencing God(s) by sacrifice is as old as the human race, so clearly that idea worked it's way into the Jesus myth.

Neither impotent or uncaring. Just a myth in a long history of human mythology.
