You forget......it was two on one. I have fought when I was drunk. I fight a whole lot better when sober. The idea is,, one of you keeps your distance, about 6 ft., where you can effectively use your taser without him even touching it. Fight smart. Din't I see two cops rolling around on the ground?

Police need training. That's what they're supposed to do. Not drunks.

In my opinion they did exactly what their training dictated.

And they were damn polite to be honest.

I have been pulled over a few times and gotten out of most tickets and they rarely have been that polite. Ive never been shot at either but I've never run because it's stupid stupid stupid.

~ As they say in police lingo "It was a good shooting". It's always bad when there is a shooting - but this case was justified.
~ He passed out while waiting in the drive through. He didn't decide to park there and sleep. Too much booze does that to people.
Since MADD came along in the U.S. about the late 1980's driving intoxicated has been taken very seriously.
We will know more from toxicology findings.

How were they justified in killing the guy to stop him from running when they had possession of his CAR fer crissake. And he had possession of the cop's TASER not his gun, and there was another cop there anyway, so even if he had tasered the cop it wouldn't have made any difference. This cop didn't want to be teased by the other cops for losing his "weapon". Well, he won't have to worry about that now.

This guy acted far more like he had mental issues than a drunk anyway. Are cops supposed to kill the mentally ill?

If you don't understand why after reading countless posts here then you are just using mental gymnastics to support an anti-cop, pro criminal agenda.

Or maybe you just like to argue, I dunno.

    I thought he blew high.

If it turns out he wasn't even drunk then we have a case of the cops shooting a guy for being sleepy.

Wendy's is known for making you wait even if drive-thru is all they have. I put it in park if there's more than 4 cars ahead at Dave's Daughter's as I've been known to doze momentarily there. ( I never EVER drive drunk btw THAT is stupid, stupid, stupid)

~ Many violent criminals are indeed mentally ill. They are homicidal psychopaths. Think Ted Bundy , Lawrence Bittaker .

The individual already demonstrated sufficient physical strength to overpower two law enforcement officers simultaneously, and was already significantly intoxicated. How did he not pose a danger to anyone?

When they demonstrate they pose a significant risk to others, indeed.

I leave mental gymnastics to the conservatives, they need them to explain how they want to support liberty with an authoritarian agenda that would do credit to even the most repressive regimes of the last century.

I think cops don't get paid enough. I also believe cops are not Social Workers, nor EMT's. What I want to defund are their having multiple million-dollar tanks and helicopters. It's like the military, that money is for SALARIES, not snazzy gadgets that don't work half the time because they've been sitting in the garage since they were bought.

It is entirely possible for both sides to be equally guilty.

You must have been looking at a different video then I did . Both officers were in contact with Brooks attempting to cuff him. One had hold of each arm, and told him to put his hands behind his back. At first it looked like he was going to comply. Then suddenly became combative. They took him to the ground, but could not get him into a position where they could use their combined body weight hold him down while they hooked him up. Brooks was able to take control of the one of the officer's taser, and separate himself from the officers.

They were doing what they could keep the situation from escalating, but it escalated without warning. I do not see much that the officers could have done to prevent the situation. It was not created by them. It was created by Brooks who decided to drive after drinking in the first place. He is the one that decided to fight against the officers. He is the one that decided to steal the taser, and he is the one that decided shoot the taser towards the officer. Rayshard Brooks in dead because of his own stupid decisions.

Where I live that kind of call would merit TWO cop cars and FOUR cops. You have a sleeping drunk, who will nearly certainly have to be taken in. Hell, THREE cop cars and SIX cops should be there. Two to deal with the guy directly, Two to watch (and witness) And two more to go get doughnuts. I'm NOT being facetious here, the whole point of having police cars patrol routes designed so carefully (and they mostly are) is so you can have OVERWHELMING force marshalled where and when it's needed, not off checking locks and lights while riots begin elsewhere. Cops want to go home at night, not to surgery and intensive care.

I'm not blaming officers. All I have said is, it only took one officer to cuff him. As you said, both were having contact with him. If one had stayed back, he would have been able to tase the man and prevented a struggle. Instead, they wrestled around on the ground giving the opportunity to lose the weapon. In martial arts training, it is observed that in a close up struggle, a gun or taser is fair game. At a distance of 6 ft.......it is a controlling deadly force. I don't know why that is hard to comprehend. 2 officers got their butts kicked and I think that is disgraceful.

So, you would rather have police officers approach a barricaded suspect across open ground. I guess you really do hate cops. Helicopters have been used by police to keep sight of a suspect that has eluded officers on the ground. Take away their tools, and you think they will still be able to safely protect the law abiding population?

The same thing that motivated him to resist arrest which is a potentially dangerous thing to do - a truly dangerous thing in his case. If they want to reduce shootings of unarmed people of all races you need to reduce arrest resistance.

You really have no understanding of how things work, do you? Most police departments are limited in the number of officers they have to patrol their precincts. They do not have enough officers to put two officers in every police vehicles. Nor, can they dispatch four or six officers to a call of a drunk sleeping in the drive thru of a fast food restaurant. If the Atlanta police had done what you have suggested, you would be complaining about the wasted assets. Six police officers responding to one drunk call, would be a total waste of resources. Then when it comes out that officers could not have responded to other, more critical calls, that resulted to other deaths. You would not hesitate to call them out for that.

You are right, Officers do want to go home at night in the same condition they was in when their shift started. But the best way to bring that about is to have people stop resisting arrest. In most of these cases, as with this one, the dead person resisted a lawful arrest. Fighting with a police officer is never a good idea. Their fighting should be done through the legal system.

First, the two officers were working with what they thought was a compliant suspect. They were working together to cuff the individual to ensure that he was not put into more discomfort then was necessary. Because this was a large individual, it may have been necessary to use two sets of cuffs to reduce the strain of the pulling his arms behind him. But the officers were taken off guard when Brooks fought back.

But said guilt by the deceased person wasn't a capital offense mandating a death penalthy administered on the spot.

And what was the cop to do when someone refuses arrest, steals his taser and threatens him. It was an instinctive decision, otherwise the officer would have been tasered.

The situation is sad though, because the black was drunk and acted stupidly.

    Fleeing felon rule.
    - The suspect committed at least 2 felonies
    - The suspect was armed
    - The suspect, by virtue of being armed, drunk, and willing to commit violence, was an immediate threat to others.
It's still a weapon, and if someone uses/threatens to use one on you, you may legally respond with deadly force.

    Good shoot.

If someone charges at a cop, especially with a WEAPON, sorry, you are gonna get shot. You think its a black thing? I DARE any white people to grab a cops taser and start running. but you won't, because you are full of it! That's just how it is. This is ONLY making headlines because its right after George Floyd (a REAL police brutality incident).
