When I was in grade school, I asked my teacher why people didn't just put a list of all crimes in a machine and it would pop out a verdict based on inputted data that excluded race, gender, age, religion, sexuality, etc.. And, if you think about it, the reason so many people fought hard against lie-detector machines being used in court cases is that they don't want it admissible because they pretty accurate.

She told me that was a good question but it can't happen because the law is not applied equally to all people. Those people can't back up each others' lies or be more lenient toward one subgroup of society while being harsher to another subgroup of society.

On topic: I am opposed to Trump going to prison for what happened on January 6, 2021 if he did not break any applicable laws. If there are, then, he should stand trial just like anybody else that broke the law that day.

Lie detectors are notoriously inaccurate. They measure bodily responses. A well trained agent knows to put an irritating stone in his shoe or dig his nails into his flesh to disrupt those responses.

Trump going to jail? For what? Lowering taxes? Clobbering ISIS? Oh... that's right, telling his supporters to peacefully protest. Ok.

Sure, make up your own definition of insurrection so you can rationalize your continued support of the Donald.

Sorry, insurrection means overthrowing a government. You can't do that by taking over any ONE BUILDING. That's absurd. Heck, even someone who's only experience with such is watching the movie "Seven Days in May" knows that. When you have an insurrection you must guarantee that the government stops functioning. From the military, to transportation, to communication, to food, fuel and just about everything. Taking over ONE BUILDING doesn't come close. Your unnatural hatred of an ex-president is affecting you in a strange way. And while I'll vote for Trump if he's nominated, I'd much rather see someone younger... like DeSantis, Abbott or Noehm.

Yes I know the definition of insurrection and so does the DOJ which has not charged anyone with insurrection. And the subject of this thread is Donald Trump going to prison. And I place blame where it sits and that is with the rioters who broke the law are being prosecuted and those in charge of Capital security who did not do their jobs that day and Pelosi is trying to give cover. And if we apply you definition then EVERY protest that occurs in DC. And what politician doesn't talk about taking back the country that is ROUTINE. The fact is Trump told them to protest peacefully, he tweeted them twice to do so respecting the police. You can be mad at him all you want. He did nothing CRIMINAL. And the fact remains security at the Capital was NOT his responsibility, he was not in charge. There was nothing he could do his hands were tied, Presidents have no jurisdiction in local domestic law enforcement.

Are you serious? That's not true. They demanded to be taken to Pence. The officers lead them away from where Pence actually was, thereby, probably saving his life.

I've never and I don't know anybody that has ever entered a place where they were welcome by scaling the walls, breaking windows and beating the hell out of police officers. I also have never urinated or defecated anywhere outside facilities designed for that purpose. Keep in mind, human waste is classified as a biohazard. Also, I've never taken anything that didn't belong to me. All of those acts are crimes.

And, success does not define if something is a crime or not. The act, itself, does. Do you really think cops show up quietly when a bank employee sets off the silent alarm and asks them if the guy got any money and when they say "no", they don't take him to jail? The presence of a weapon (unloaded or not; used or not; shown or not) during a pat down or found in the would-be-robber's vehicle ups the ante. Not only did they find all kinds of weapons and ammunition on some of the rioters but in their vehicles. As a cop, I didn't even carry my weapon when I was off-duty.

I get that you're rather fond of Trump and maybe that's why you are trying to reinvent history about what went down at the Capitol or you're just okay with whatever they did to reach their stated goals. I don't know and I don't need to know. That's something you need to work out within yourself. I wish you well in that endeavor.

You must be young. Folks routinely scaled walls, broke windows, and battled cops during the anti-war riots of the 1960's and 1970's. Probably the most famous such event was the occupation of Hamilton Hall at Columbia University in 1968. Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin conducted such protests by occupying buildings on almost a routine basis in the 1960's and 1970's. Here's a pic of the building occupation at Columbia University:

    upload_2022-1-5_17-22-27.png

There were five (of about 800) protesters that were charged with having weapons at the capitol on 6 January 2021.
FIVE were thought to be carrying guns. FIVE out of 800.

Christopher Alberts – case still pending… arrested for carrying OUTSIDE the Capitol

Lonnie Coffman – arrested OUTSIDE the Capital after the protest was over

Cleveland Meredith – not even present in DC, arrested for “intending” to bring a gun to DC.

Marv Ibrahim – arrested, later found to be legally carrying as a DEA agent

Guy Reffitt – gun charges changed to “obstruction”

So Alberts is the only REAL gun arrest associated with the Jan 6 Capitol protest. ONE guy. ONE.

How does the left wing media report this? They list every firearms arrest for miles and try to link it to the protest. Its hilarious.

It should also be noted that insurrectionists make DEMANDS. There were no demands whatsoever from this group of 800 PROTESTERS.

Should the protesters be charged with trespassing? Absolutely.

The problems these witch hunts cause is that it incentivizes the other side to do the same thing. Bipartisanship is impossible with one witch hunt after the other.
What is this getting you, Mr. Citizen?
I guarantee you that 2022 will be continuous back biting over Biden corruption, Durham report should be out someday. There is talk about sending Garland up for impeachment over warrantless intimidation of telecom companies to produce “all records of all people…”.
I haven’t even touched on the lowest hanging fruit of all : Hillary.

@Curious Always talked about this last year. She said that "we get the government we deserve.". If we didn't play their game and jump on the Hate & Blame bandwagon, they would HAVE to fix their BS or get the hell out. That's on US.

Ridiculous. He didn't do anything illegal or anything that even bothered me. Jan. 6 was just another protest that turned into riot just like the hundreds of them we had in 2020. We need to train our youth to find another way to affect change. Rioting is a very bad idea.
