    @Patricio Da Silva

Citizen Trump is willing to go to jail to protect his first amendment rights to free speech... not only for himself, but for all Americans.... the first amendment right for free speech is a god given right, Merchan is not god.

I think Republicans just want to get rid of Biden. I think that will happen. Either the DNC will replace him on the ballot or he will lose if they don't.

There’s no legit reason Trump should be denied the right to respond to attacks.

They can't, all of the ballot infrastructure is a fait accompli, it logistically cannot be changed at this juncture. Not only that, tradition has it that the incumbent is always given the right to claim the nomination, if he wants it.

Why would repubs want to get rid of him, when they believe Trump can easily beat him?

He should have been in Rikers a long time ago. What I meant to say was that a lesser penalty is more likely. We must lower our expectations about our two-tier judicial system that provides so many privileges if you're a famous billionaire.

What do you mean by "it cant be changed at this juncture"?

If you are saying he cannot be replaced, of course he can. All that is required is for him to withdraw his name. He could easily say he has a health issue etc. On top of that, I do not believe there are any federal rules for whom a party puts up as its candidate or how they got there.

I personally will be surprised if Biden is the nominee in November. I sincerely hope that he is because I find it hard to fathom that he could possibly win regardless of his opponent.

Right, fmw made the first comment.

I wrote that because of ballot placement logistics, plus other reasons, means that it would be extremely difficult to replace him, because once a presidential candidate, like President Biden, is officially nominated by their party and appears on the ballots, replacing them becomes logistically complex, especially close to an election. Ballots are prepared, printed, and in some cases distributed well in advance of Election Day. This includes absentee and early voting ballots, which are sent out weeks before the actual election.

Changing a candidate at that late stage would require not only a new nomination process within the party but also extensive logistical changes to the ballots across all states. Each state has its own deadlines and rules for when candidates must be finalized on the ballot. If a replacement occurs after these deadlines, it might not be possible to update the ballots in time, which could lead to significant confusion and legal challenges.

Therefore, while it's technically possible under extraordinary circumstances for a party to replace their nominee, it would involve overcoming substantial logistical and legal hurdles, making it highly impractical close to an election.

While it may be difficult, surely it can be done.

If he had a stroke and went into a coma tomorrow, he would clearly be replaced.

I personally think he WILL be replaced, but only time will tell I suppose. I hope I am wrong.

There are lot of liberals or progressives who would like to see America slouch into being governed like a third world banana republic.

I could see this coming more than a decade ago.

The Republicans don’t care. The Democrats might send Joe and Kamala packing during their convention.

    It would be extremely difficult.

You are wrong. Joe has plenty of life in him. It's Trump you should worry about, given his junk food, little sleep, adderall addiction, slurry speech, more and more incoherent speech.

It would do no good. You approve of using the U.S. justice system to silence political opposition. You want the U.S. to be modeled after Cuba or Venezuela.

are you voting for Trump who has come right out and said he is going to go after his political opposition as retribution?

If there were no evidence against Trump, you'd have a point.

    '

As long as his speech doesn't intimidate witnesses, interfere with trial integrity, he can say whatever he wants, within the constraints of the gag order.

People are going to attack Trump no matter what, and if he hasn't gotten used to it, it's about time he did. Sitting in a court room and shutting up will be a good exercise for his arrogant inflated ego,
