there is workfare programs going on in some states. If you are a single mother with an infant, you can't very well go to work for welfare, because it would cost you almost as much as you make for daycare or full time babysitting. the point being that you insist on ignoring the actual demographics of welfare recipients and that many have significant socio-economic problems that they are not strong enough, intelligent enough, healthy enough, articulate enough, literate enough to address.

I think you have an attitude based on anecdotal evidence and a visceral feeling about the stereotypical welfare queen, who exist in very small numbers. You certainly aren't processing the information, you simply acknowledge its interesting and then proceed to essentially fall back on your incorrect stereotypes and top line numbers.

for instance, how many of the 47 million americans on food stamps are children? How many are disabled? how many are temporarily unemployed? You appear to assume that 47 million able bodied people are on food stamps because they can.

And your horse analogy certainly speak volumes for your attitude towards the poverty stricken and the underprivileged.
Humans are not like horses. You think complacency drives these people, that they have no motivation, no american dream, that they are all just slugs? I don't think you have much interaction with the poor, because it sure doesnt seem as tho you have any kind of understanding or emphathy of their plight, but merely focus on a minute number of abusers and paint everyone else with the same brush.

The US Constitution doesn't tell us we can fish for Spanish mackeral in Florida in the Spring and Fall, but you know what ?
    We can do it.

Nor does Social Security pay enough for many recipients of it who are past workforce age. And many of them have paid into Social Security for 50 years or more. I think there should be a welfare safety net for Americans, but not for foreigners who just drop in (never having paid taxes here) and start collecting benefits.

Most egregious are the illegal aliens who come in criminally across the Mexican border (or from wherever) in the 8th month of pregnancy, and use the anchor baby racket to help themselves to a lifetime of benefits, while contributing nothing. That needs to be stopped.

What do you propose in place of it? What happens to these people? Do they starve? Most of the illegals work off the books because unscrupulous businessmen don't want to pay SS co-payments/benefits/workman's comp payments.

Most of the problems would be eradicated if businessmen didn't hire illegals.

You have to start somewhere. What we are doing now is unsustainable, the termites will collapse the house unless immediate action is taken. For serious problems, you need serious solutions. The poor will always be among us, we can however, reduce their numbers be creating a hostile environment for being a non producer, while creating incentive for those are are producers.

This is why I only brought up two, granted, they were the worst offenders in my eyes, but they still served the purpose. I could dig up gobs more, but to what avail? I know from personal experience in Minnesota, Utah, California, and others states, that the program is slightly abused by most, and really abused by a few, the rarity however is the one that uses it for its intended purposes and gets off of it as soon as possible.

Your turn to cough up some numbers, the number of food stamps came from your source, break it down for me then. You also neglected to mention the resistance to screen applicants for governmental aid. Why such resistance?

Wrong, it is from this stock from which I sprang. My father made good money, as did my mother, but by father couldn't manage his money to save his life. I simply learned, and refused to live that way when I was older, which is admittedly, odd for a child to do. But it can be done.

The analogy is accurate, your attempt to wrench it into me likening the poor to mere cattle is a failure at best. If I despised the poor so much I would just say I despise them. You don't have to like the analogy, but a horse that isn't worked enough, gets barn sour, rebellious to the point where you just need to break them in again before they are worth anything. Humans are like horses in a few regards. Take it or leave it.

Incentive, that is what they need. People need to learn to look after themselves.

A good article for you do read.

A-frigging-men. But it is fun to watch the rightwing Iowa growers take their corn subsidy checks or the rightwing rugged-individual cattlemen get their grazing leases for pennies on the dollar. And I'd sure like to get a depletion allowance when my wells spit sand. Those are the REAL entitlement classes.

And there's almost no reason a white can't get a job. Who wants to hire Blacks and Hispanics?

I am opposed to completely eliminating assistance for the poor, but ideally, the welfare should be tied to some sort of eugenics / population control requirement.

The same as what I've been proposing for over 20 years now.

    1. A mass deportation program to rid the US of illegal alien parasites (similar to Operation Wetback in 1954), with illegal aliens deposited in southern Mexico.

    2. Abolition of birthright citizenship.

    3. Full construction of the Mexican border double fence MANDATED by the 2006 Secure Fence Act. (with 10 rows of constatina barbed wire on the American side)

    4. An ultimatum given to Mexico, that unless they stop sending migrants here, they will suffer military action against them.

    5. US military patrols of the Mexican border including US warships along both Mexican coasts.

    6. Full enforcement of IRCA, with jail time for the offending employers.

    7. Mandatory use of E-Verify.

    8. National biometric ID system.

What happens to the Mexican migrants is they get taken care of by their Mexican countrymen and government, not the American people and American govt.

No, but it should be available to those unable to work due to disability for the most part. And, then to help educate individuals that are unqualified for jobs that pay enough to support their families and to low-income children.

Regardless of the intention, it is pure discrimination. GIve to all or give to none, period. The same goes with regard to healthcare (i.e. the affordable care act). Any attempts to defend discrimination are racist/discrimanist/you pick it -ist.

Lazy cats that simply show up to be fed at the doorstep don't bother to eat rats.

I haven't received a FN dime in my lifetime. I am not OK with giving welfare to ANYONE. Are you pulling illegal aliens out of your ass or are you just messing with me?

I do have experience with welfare---and I don't think a whole bunch has changed since I had foodstamps, housing allowances, medical card, cash payments and daycare assistance.

The system itself causes complacency. To advance, get raises and raise your status means you lose your precious benefits and yes...you start depending on what the government gives you.

My experience was---I got WAY too much food stamps. The medical card was poisen. I found it too precious to let go when offered a raise. And paying $20 a month for a nice size trailer that normally went for $500....well a person gets used to it.

Daycare is the real killer for a single mom. That is an area that needs to be addressed to help a person get on their feet. But frankly poor people get so many benefits, that when you somehow thrust them out into the real world with everyone else, they find that they need to actually struggle to make ends meet. Something that many don't do while on welfare. How can you be motivated when everything is backwards?

HA HA. I happen to know that's false. I routinely feed cats at my doorstep, and after a very big meal of cat food and water, I see them go out into the big field behind my back yard and hunt and catch rats, mice, lizards, large bugs, and snakes. Cats hunt whether hungry or not. They really get into it. It's just what they do. A big part of being a cat.

What's your problem dude ? You said "give it to all or give it to none". So I was wondering if YOUR "all" includes illegal aliens. What's the matter ? Bad mood today or something ?

Por Espanoles, that means when I get something out of this corrupt system, perhaps I will consider giving something to YOU. Benefits should correlate with contribution. If you contribute NOTHING, you get NOTHING. If you want to want to see a civil war because of discrimination, I won't say that I disagree with you.

While we are on the subject of welfare, why not bring up why a tax should be imposed upon middle-class citizens to support lower-class citizens? Why not support an elimination program? If you support abortion, why not abortion at the age of 35 if someone is not working (i,e, most of Obama's voting base)? Any takers for serious discussion?

How many years ago was this?

So you lived in a trailerpark. and your neighbours weren't motivated because the benefits were so good.

You appear to be advocating that because of its demotivating influence along with all the waste it should be elminated. I can't imagine what negative issues could out weight the benefit of getting this assistance.
What is the rationale for wanting to deprive other young impoverished families of the benefits you were provided?

    I just don't get it.

Seems like to me that there are lots of people/corporations/businesses who want to hire hispanics... as long as they are illegal anyway.

People can only collect welfare (not counting food stamps and medicaid) for a lifetime total of 5 years, that's federal law.

The vast majority of those on food stamps actually hold down full time jobs which do not pay enough to actually house and feed their families. In many states single people without children do not qualify for things like food stamps or medicaid.
