I voted for Reagan twice. Been voting for Dems ever since for President. I campaigned for Ross Perot but didn't vote for him. He was a little bonkers. I did vote for Republicans for lower offices but will no longer. No Republican will ever get my vote again. If after trump you call yourself a Republican, you don't deserve my vote. That's all I need to know.

Daddy Bush about made me sick with his thousand points of light nonsense. It was clear that he had no idea what regular people are like. And I considered his rhetoric to be insulting and condescending. Probably a good man but no concept of the real issues facing average Americans. It is so strange that he and Bill Clinton got to be best buddies. It shows that one can despised politically but still be a good person.

Bush Jr was out of his league. I'm sure he would be a nice guy to sit and talk with over dinner. But Presidential material he was not. He came across as a bumbling idiot. And in presidential terms, that's exactly what he was.

I loved Obama. We are about the same age and both come from a multi-cultural background. I understood him and what he wanted to do. I think the man is aces. He wasn't perfect by any stretch but I would vote for him again in a heartbeat. Much of the crap spewed by his detractors is pure nonsense. And he carried us through the most treacherous time in the US since the great depression. While he was constantly attacked for pushing a liberal agenda, in fact he was quite conservative in many ways. The biggest issue with many people was the $2500 tax if you don't have insurance. And I totally understand the objections. But the need was real. The US medical system has been spiraling out of control since the 1980s. If you don't have everyone in the system, it will eventually collapse. That is a simple matter of mathematics. There are no easy answers to this problem. And now trump has sabotaged the system. It will only get worse and worse.

I voted for Hillary while holding my nose. I might have supported any number of Republicans over her. But trump is the greatest threat to democracy the country has ever seen. And he has torn the country apart with his crackpot conspiracy theories and perpetual lies. He is pushing a classic authoritarian agenda specifically intended to mislead his followers and to undermine the institutions critical to a functioning government. And most of all, he doesn't have even an elementary understanding of the Constitution. He is all about grabbing power and turning Americans against each other.

I take real issue with foreigners who don't understand the first thing about the essential components of our government, cheering for him like he's freaking football star. The man is truly a monster. If you think he's great for England, fine, then make that argument. But stay the hell out of US politics. You are crapping in our bathtub and cheering for man who would eliminate the Bill of Rights tomorrow if he could.

I would have voted for Ross Perot also.

I don't really remember too many of the other guys who were running.

But there is no way I would have ever voted for a democrat.

The 3 worst things that have had the most negative affect on Americas working class in my lifetime are the congress and bankers introducing the 401K in the late 1970's,the election of Ronald Reagan and the election of Donald Trump. The 401K has spelled the end of the American middle class with over 100,000 private pension plans being terminatedduring the Reagan years. The monies saved by no longer funding pensions was divvied up between company executives and Boards of Directors creating the huge salary disparities we see today.Reagan further escalated the problem by his attack on unions and disbanding the air traffic controllers union and his general disregard for Americas working class.Dirty Donald and his current attacks on American workers speak for themselves.

In 1992, 1996 and 2000 I went with Pat Buchanan.

This is simple I have voted for Dems in the General election in the white house consistently since I could vote except this last election. I voted for Stein over Clinton as a protest vote. I live in Oregon so I could afford the luxury without worrying about hurting her chances

    You got 2008 wrong.
And never vote for a Bush.

I agree and have been campaigning for the repeal of the 22d Amendment since 1972.

The dismantling of the FDR model, including deregs of financial institutions, that was done beginning with reagan, bush, with dems jumping on the bandwagon under clinton, which has continued to this day is what created the end of a large middle class and turning over the keys to our economy to a small group of elite families.

There was a change to a neoliberal philosophy which was 180 away from what created history's largest middle class here in america. Embraced by both parties, but originating from the GOP.

I think that is the simplest and most accurate view, although it has so many moving parts. NAFTA served the elites and basically was the death knell in regards to unions, collective bargaining, and all of these free trade agreements serve that goal, as well as creating the worst possible disparity in income since the gilded age, even surpassing it. The long term effects will lead to big problems with social stability and class warfare. And make something like communism or socialism attractive to those who do not understand capitalism comes in different flavors. One can create a huge middle class, the other, as we have now, can destroy it.

I have voted for 3rd parties over the years, beginning with clinton's second run. I cannot vote for the DP or GOP when they are both intent on destroying the middle and working people as they both serve a few at the top. Princeton evidenced this using congressional record.

I think history is showing that Ross Perot had it right in 1992. The "giant sucking sound" that he forecast in his campaign came to fruition.

In some ways, Ross Perot and Donald Trump have a lot in common; especially on the issue of trade.

I saw that Perot was absolutely right in what he said about NAFTA, and any free trade agreement, that really isn't about free trade in the traditional sense, but in offshoring our economy to max out profits for the few at the top. So of course that giant sucking sound would be good jobs, that feed our own, and keep them off of welfare, leaving this nation. It would have astounded our founders, the idiocy involved in it. And it would never have created the america that won ww2. Or the one that went to the moon, and many other accomplisments, including history's largest middle class!

From the big picture view, it is easy to see what this economic globalism is, and what actually drove it. As it is easy to see it was economic treason upon the people of this nation, and the country itself, as seen by our founders. But is is what happens when an elite brand of capitalism is given the keys to the store, and are allowed to create an environment that only really serves their own interests in regards to income and wealth. We moved from the United States of America, a republic, to the United States of Elite Capitalism, and away from a republic. After all a republic, using representative is supposed to represent the best interests of its citizens, as a whole, and not only a few at the top. We allow the interests of a few elite capitalists to trump any other interest and what that created can be seen in looking at america today.

I could not possibly hurt her chances in this deep blue state. She won the state 51.7 to 41.1% with Stein getting 2.5% and write-ins getting 3.63%. There was zero chance that she was going to lose this state.
Nobody would have heard a vote for her either and considering Dems were expected to vote for the Dem nominee there is no anomaly to be noticed if I and other like-minded Dems, continued the expected pattern. But there is a chance that if the Green party gained some nominal but noticable benefit in this election cycle in states like Oregon, and another nominal but noticeable blip involved Dems who wrote in Sanders ( Oregon is one of the few states that allow and count write-ins for president), and another noticeable and noticeable blip involved Dems who stayed home, some political geeks who crunch numbers, might notice those three blips and investigate further and poll for those demographic disparities in patterns.

And there was a blip to be noticed! In 2012, Obama got 54.27,Romney got 42.25, Stein got 1.9%, and write-in got 0.74. Even if you add the Progressive party's numbers under Rocky Anderson at 0.19% ( it was only listed in 2012, not 2016) to the figure to Stein's figure, she still did better in 2016 !

There was no downside to voting for Stein in Oregon, and a conceivable upside in doing so, if you happen to be a dis-satisfied Dem.

I have no use or respect for third party candidates. Ross Perot changed the outcome of an election and that is all a third party is good for.

    1988 Bush
    1992 Clinton
    1996 Clinton
2000 Bush (although more like anti-Gore)

    2008 Obama
2012 Romney (although more like anti-Obama)
2016 Trump (although more like anti-Hillary - almost did a write-in for Deadpool)

I first voted in 1980 when I was 18. I voted for Reagan and have voted Republican ever since.

Big government is evil, and the Republicans are better on that topic than the Democratic Socialists.
