Geebus, try Trump's own words at Saturday's flop of a rally.

    1. Your link is a paywall site.
    2. What did Trump say that was wrong. Testing is everywhere, I have paranoid friends that have been tested multiple times in the past two months with no waiting in lines, less than an hour ago I left Costco and they has a pallet of N95 masks.
I don't get what all the flutter is about.... Oh yea it is an election year and Trump is president.

I am speaking of widespread testing, you must be speaking of forced testing. Not the same.

Widespread testing is available. Yous said Trump supporters were against it. I didn't realize you meant mandatory/forced testing.

I'm not talking about gov mandated testing. Nor was Trump. He was just saying that he didn't feel nationwide testing was necessary.

Nationwide testing is available now, so what difference does it make whether he thinks so or not. Whoever wants a test can get one.

My initial question was, why would people oppose widespread testing. That's how we got into this.

And no one has opposed it. I've yet to hear anyone claiming we need to stop it nor has anyone protested it.

So why are you responding over and over and over again? I asked why people would oppose it. You don't have an answer for that - you're just saying that no one does. And that doesn't answer my question, does it?

Actual science refutes Trump's idea of not testing. If you don't get that, there's nothing I can say.

Because you're asking why one would oppose it when no one actually does. And you're wondering why you won't get a clear answer.

Well, just a thought for future - if I'm asking a question that doesn't have a clear answer, just don't answer. That would make life a whole lot simpler for you, don't you think?

Didn't we get through the initial bad stages with limited testing?

We got into this because China didn't have control of their lab or because they turned this crap loose on the world intentionally. What does testing do for us? We need to be able to test someone who goes to a doctor sick so the doctor knows goes what to do. Of course we don't have a cure for this or a vaccine to prevent it so we treat symptoms. Why then so we need a test, treat the symptoms as best you can which is how we got through the initial surge of a new virus. Tests have a purpose but they are not a magic bullet, just a tool.

So now, there's a new spin coming from the WH on Trump's 'joke' about slowing down testing...

Pence is now saying that the comment about slowing down testing was just a 'passing observation'. And Trump, responding to a question in an interview said, "Uhh, if it did slow down, frankly, I think we're way ahead of ourselves if you want to know the truth. We've done too good a job."

So I guess they didn't want to stick with the 'relax folks - it was just a joke' narrative...

I've thought for quite a while that they should stop pushing testing. At first, I wondered why everyone wasn't being tested. But then I realized that, if the asymptomatic thing was true, EVERY person would have to be tested EVERY DAY for it to help...and that isn't possible, so we'd be sunk anyway. Now sounds like the asymptomatic thing isn't so much likely, so I wonder why anyone who doesn't have any symptoms and isn't ill needs to be tested.

Of course, the medical establishment pushes the tests, but then they get to charge for every test, so there is a tiny conflict of interest there. And the more tests they run, the higher the positive statistics, which just scares people, most of whom have no real reason to be afraid. And it adds fuel to the fire of those who don't want the panic to end for their own agenda.

Trump opposes testing. He said so himself. So, the question of why is valid.

    I don't think so.

This thread is about slowing down on testing for COVID-19. Trump is advocating for less or slower testing, against all scientific evidence of the efficacy of testing and contact tracing.

He opposed it when we had cruise ships full of the virus..he opposes it now.

He COULD have used the DPA to ensure that we had the materials available for the kind of testing a global pandemic requires but he thinks testing will show higher numbers of infections and in his strange world...he sees that as a political liability...so of course...no Federal push for testing

Medical science does NOT suggest that "whoever wants a test can get one" is of interest as an approach to fighting COVID. Medical science is pointing to specific strategies that include testing. Those strategies are what is important.

Every tool we have in every discipline can be used in a way that is worthless.

And, suggesting we're using the tool when it is being used in a worthless way is pure sophistry.
