What is the worthwhile use of testing as a tool? You seem to be saying that broad testing is useless but that doesn't explain the admiration for the Koreans for doing that very thing. I happen to agree with you that much of it is wasted. I think that many of us walk around asymptomatic carriers every day. We just aren't all getting it and of those who do the overwhelming majority don't die. Testing doesn't do anything but confirm a diagnosis.

When kids defied the edicts and went to the beaches on spring break the media watched them and reported every sniffle and said "see there, we told you so." Now we are seeing another flare up and it's because Trump had a rally. Never mind the rioters, looters and protesters, that had nothing to do with the increase today and not one media outlet has even suggested that possibility. (Racism being what it is)

This virus is among us and it's a serious little bug but so much of what is taking place around it is just pure politics. This would never have been the case with the Democrats Nancy came into being around.

I tried really hard to make sense of that mess,

So are you for testing or not?

Was Trump joking about not wanting testing?

If you and your doctor feel you need to be tested I'm all for it. I don't believe it is the biggest tool in the box for controlling this virus.

    Why do you believe this?

Because you're unaware that testing and contact tracing are HOW pandemics are fought and have been for decades?

From an interview on Scribbs with Joe St. George

St. George tried to get Trump back on track by emphasizing with his arms and hands and asked again directly, "But did you ask to slow it down?

Trump hesitated and stammered "Ahhh" and then refused to answer it directly.

"If it did slow down," he said.

    Yes, please proceed.

"Frankly I think were way ahead ourselves if you want to know the truth..."

"We've done too good a job," Trump continued.

"The reason we have more cases is because we do more testing than any other country," he repeated.

Notice he couldn't answer? Notice he simply repeats lines fed to him as if doing so would actually mean something different?

Flu changes every year but the vaccines seem to give enough protection to get the world through it. I've never heard of mass testing for a new strain. What pandemic are you referring to that required this kind of mass testing?

Didn't need to. The Obama Admin jumped on it early and effectively

But we were talking about TESTING. I wrote it in big letters so you wouldn't get confused again

Wait...first he was joking and when you see that claim is "less than honest" it becomes "who cares"?

That one person was an American medical professional who had volunteered to go to Africa and help contain the ebola outbreak. Her homecoming involved numerous people in full hazmat garb and complete "boy in a bubble" isolation until she tested clean. As a result of this, the Obama administration learned much about what to do and not do in the event of an outbreak here.

They also used the lessons learned from the H1N1 pandemic of 2009-2010 to create a response network that included representation on the National Security Council, which Bolton dismantled, and a 69 page "pandemic playbook" which Trump and friends chose to ignore back in January.

I know who it was and why but it was still reckless to bring that disease here when it can't make the trip on it's own. We had doctors and scientists in Africa studying the disease and they were dealing with an outbreak (as opposed to a pandemic) so it would have given the information you spoke of.

As I remember it, she needed more intensive treatment than they were equipped to provide in Africa.

Of course Republicans haven't heard of mass testing for a new flu strain.

Its because Republicans are clues, uninformed about science, uninterested in the why the world wirks better, and constantly search to find a way to line their pockets instead of doing a good job of making the USA and the world better.

Flu strains are constantly be tested and checked, new variations are discovered and included when considered a candidate for the coming flu season and are prepared for the new fall season. Its even partly possible because science has been studying flu for more than 50 years, altho is still has a long way to go before its perfected.

But Trump and the Republicans just prattle on over any and all excuses, and constantly blame for leaders like Obama and other Democrats leaders even though in the last decades (pretty much since Reagan) to make excuse and failure to pocket money and waste enormous money making huge armaments while not bother trying to get health care for each and every citizen for everyone for half the cost of every other First World citizen.

And now the USA does it again - kills lots of US citizens and blame it in everyone else, like China. But the tge USA can't even make N95 masks to save our healt care workers and tge public.

    FAIL again!

You're talking two different kinds of testing, lab tests and development and testing people on the street.

China killed all these people around the world with their dangerous viral development and their careless procedures. Or maybe they just turned it loose?

Is that what Obama did that was so effective?

I've watched life go by for over 70 years and I have never seen anything like this.

"A couple of weeks ago, I asked Larry Brilliant, the renowned epidemiologist who helped eradicate smallpox, what is the one message he would bring to the daily press briefing if he were president. He answered without hesitation: “I would begin the press conference by saying ‘Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to Ron Klain … Covid czar.’ ”

In 2014, Barack Obama appointed Ron Klain as the White House Ebola response coordinator to fight what was then the world’s biggest health threat.

The Ebola experience defines him. After an initial response that critics said was too slow, Obama took aggressive action, including deploying thousands of troops to West Africa and bringing on Klain as the Ebola czar. Those efforts were instrumental in averting a wider catastrophe. Klain now is firmly in the I-saw-this-coming camp, having testified in Congress and written op-eds trying to alert the country to pandemic danger, with more urgency earlier this year.

We proposed in our budget several years in the Obama administration to increase funding for the stockpile to buy more goods. The Republican House rejected it each time we proposed it."

And the brilliance continues. Yesterday, he said, "If we didn't test, we wouldn't have cases. We have cases because we test."

    If I didn't test, I wouldn't have cancer. I have cancer because I tested.
    If I didn't test, I wouldn't be pregnant. I am pregnant because I tested.
Fun game - we could go on and on...

Has the world stopped turning for you? Sorry, I'm sincerely befuddled by that remark.
