I remember once something Liz Taylor { a big boozer } in a TV
movie about her and Dick { Richard Burton } a serious alcoholic.
Something about taking a few days off from drinking and the liver
can recuperate.I remember a doctor once explaining that.
I also remember my High school biology teacher { a very strict
Holt Cross brother } explain how the lungs do a pretty good job of
filtering out from smoking and can also recuperate if given the
opportunity. But there is always the law of diminishing returns.
A point of no return. But a good overall policy for a boozer is to
make sure and give it a rest on a regular basis.
Unless one wants to look like that rummy from :
    - Barfly - { 1987 }
Who steps up to the bar in the morning needing a shot real bad.
" Shot of bar whisky please ".
Shaking so bad he spills most the first shot. So's the Barkeep pours
him another. " Here old timer this one's on the house "
" Why Thank you " old drunk says.
This time the rummy takes his scarf and wraps it around his wrist and
then around his neck to keep from spilling the fluid as he carefully
    downs said booze.

arm so as to steady his hand while

You will get a Nieman's catalog when your Equifax numbers show it would be worth sending you one.
Just complain to our friends in Moldova and Peshawar where all your personal data has been collected and stored for your convenience - they will see to it that your NM catalog is in the mail - stat. :)

i've had the good fortune of never activating my alcoholic gene, but developed a fast food gene to replace it.

it is a different beast, but taking a few days off of it does recuperate the liver as well.

Caveat Emptor Beer nuts.Beware of cloudy beers. Most
Homebrews are cloudy.Due to drop off yeast cells that rest
at the bottom of the bottle while aging. My last experience with a
highly rated boutique beer made me sick.I had to stop my dinner
and go to bed.Beer is not like Fine wine that can age for a long time.

    Drink Pabst or Die.

I expect the Pabst bosses to pay up for that little ad. Bigly if it aires during the SuperBowl - if there is another SuperBowl. ;-)

Those who went to my Sears thread learned that Sears started charging
for their Catalog. But when you made a major purchase you got credit for
the expense of that catalog.Well ... not You ... personally.

I was a big beer drinker in college and after.I never drank Pabst.
I dunno why. I only knew one kid who preferred Pabst.
I considered it like Carling Black Label.I would even prefer
Iron city over Pabst. Even Blatz.Especially Schlitz.

Sorry I didnt know you had a Sears thread. JCPenney too. Did you notice NM often delivers catalogs same day. Remember impeccable service? They still have it.

I think Schlitz went by way of most 2nd tier Premium beer.
I stopped drinking beer altogether around 7 years ago.
I used to like a really good beer or small can of Premium beer
on the nights I got plastered. That would be after having my meal
w/ Red Wine and then Cognac the rest of the night after dessert.
I also noticed that one of The best Beers available and costs over
    $ 10.oo a 4 pack was Duval Ale.
The smaller and closer knit the bubbles the better the beer.
Big Fat bubbles { the head } spell a really cruddy beer.

    * When Duval started to appear less colorful and tasteful and the
head { which was it's stock in trade } was very less foamy I knew
The Best of Beers had a quality control problem.
It didn't seem to affect some quality Ales from Britain like
    Samuel Smith.

One of the more memorable songs from my Marine Corps days...sung to the tune of the Battle Hymn of the Republic:

Oh mine eyes have seen the Devil on the Shores of Tripoli.
He wears the Globe and Anchor just the same as you and me.
With one hand on the trigger and the other on a bottle of Pabst Blue Ribbon beeeeeer!
Glory, Glory what a helluva way to die,
Glory, Glory what a helluva way to die,
Glory, Glory what a helluva way to die,
    The Marines go marching on!

Another gorgeous day to be alive!

Currently in Raliegh, NC visiting relatives but will head back to Texas Tuesday. We had an early Thanksgiving dinner yesterday, then will visit with other relatives today and tomorrow including celebrating a 10 year old's birthday.
