How lovely. How did you start collecting Trivets and how many do you have? Do people buy you them as presents?
My mum collects piggy banks, when she got to 500 she asked people to stop buying them for her.

A man is giving me a scrap piece of this 3/8th thick well casing. I'm going to build a small smoker. [IMG]

You can see the gators clearly in those crystal clear waters. I grew up 5 miles from this one. Silver Springs, Marion county. Some famous films made here, "creature from the black lagoon, original Tarzan and some old James Bond, the statues from that one remain to this day.

    Back in the day..[IMG]

Recently, also world famous, glass bottom boats.

See, you can see the gators!

Wild monkeys from the Tarzan films, feral to this day. You would rather not be hiking the ancient swamps on foot and see them on your side of the river, as I did as a boy, cute but mean little demons. Caught my first water moccasin here at 14 yo.

I can start talking about my favourite castles again if it helps.

    Stokesay castle in Shropshire.

Strictly speaking it's a fortified manor house.
Granted it's licence to crenelate in 1291 by Edward I.

The South Tower was built in an unusual heart shape.

Stokesay had major work done in Tudor times including the magnificent timber framed gatehouse...
and the ''solar'' or sun room built on the north tower.
The family room still has it's oak panelled walls and a fantastic carved fireplace which would originally have been brightly painted.
The great hall is complete and still has it's original roof.
The windows were an early example of English glazing and were so valuable that the family took them with them when they travelled to one of their other properties.
The curtain wall surrounding Stokesay was destroyed during the English civil war when the castle was ordered to be ''slighted'' so it could no longer be used for military purposes. Fortunately, the commanding officer refused to destroy the main castle walls which was the fate of many English castles at the time because he felt it was too beautiful.

Definitely in the top 3 castles I've visited. In such well preserved condition you could move in tomorrow.
The parties you could hold in the Great Hall would be legendary.

I have probably around 200. I found a trivet in a in antique shop and I liked the feel of it and the design. When we redid the kitchen my husband had the contractor build a sturdy wall above the cabinets so the trivets could be hung.

@FatBack A beautiful trip is up the Oklawaha River to the Silver River. Where the two rivers meet there is a very distinct dividing line in the two rivers, the tannic colored waters meets the clear waters of the Silver River, it is absolutely awesome.

The backroads of Florida are much better than the spots that tourists visit. Not at all what Jimmy Kimmel describes.

I had 1 that came from my grandmother's old stuff, but I broke it in half when I dropped it one day. :(

I really wasn't sure what it was for at first, but soon discovered that it made a handy dandy thing to sit hot pots on which turned out to be what it was for :winner:

Since then, I have just use the halfs of a bamboo cutting board I also broke in two in its stead. I didn't drop it. I just kept putting it in the dishwasher until the wood split

I got all of the roof done except the ridge cap on the bedroom. I will have to cut the cap over the bedroom and cut it in where the two valleys meet but that is next month. Now my wife wants a roof over the back deck. I am trying to get a picture in my head on how frame it. I could build a mini greenhouse out there for seed starting. She says she wants a place for us to sit when we get too old to move around anymore.

Oh! Trivits! I was wondering what the problem was since tribels multiply on their own.

You can buy smokers at all price points and that rust away in a couple of years. 3/8 steel.... Even A36 structural steel at 3/8 of an inch will last a while. And built to suit individual needs.
