Justice is not relevant here. When the whites arrived the Blacks were indeed living in primitive conditions, and would be today had the whites left them alone. But the whites did not come to bring civilisation to backward peoples, and they ended up with the land only because of one aspect of their superior civilisation: their ability to use force. Gunpowder, not geometry or philosophy or any other aspect of civilisation made them the masters. Now the situation is reversed, and they must leave, or live in a society which will begin to revert to the state of nature it was in when they found it, Simple. Those who remain should be awarded a collective Darwin Award.

Here's the thing, I don't get how any Boer couldn't have seen this coming. They had a good decade to sell and get out after apartheid. Did they actually think that they were going to be able to keep their positions, lives, and property forever? Eventually, the desperately poor majority populace would get jealous, and want to take their stuff. This is a natural result of multiracial/multicultural societies.

What did South African blacks have before the whites came? Sharp sticks? They certainly didn't own any land. They were a stone-age people. Land ownership was unknown in the stone-age.

 

We can certainly start with this fact and then ask what would be justice for people today given these facts. Apartheid is not the fault of whites today, but at least some have had an advantage. Blacks have been disadvantaged.

 

What would "make it right?" Apartheid advantaged not only white landowners but white people in all walks of life.

Maybe the answer is that White South Africans believed what they were told -- that Black Africans were civilized, talented, hard-working, and fully integrated into the "modern" world where people are treated equally and fairly. SURPRISE!

Civilized is irrelevant in this context, but frankly so is being "talented, hard-working, and fully integrated into the "modern" world." It boils down to the Black majority thought things were going to get better, and no surprise, for most of them it did not, and they started to look for a scapegoat....honestly, this seems to play out over and over.
