Is calling it "semi-automatic" a plea for the ignorant? When was the last time anyone used a bolt action rifle, K State, or did Columbine kids use bolt action? Hand guns are semi-auto. Semi-auto is a term about pulling the trigger once, firing one bullet. This isn't a gun which can rapidly fire 10 bullets in a second when you hold down the trigger, those are still banned. BTW, hand-guns, semi-auto hand guns, are far more likely to be used in mass shootings than a rifle. How deadly a gun is typically depends on the person wielding the weapon too.

The united state supreme court has stated, in absolute terms, that such does not mean anything. It does not matter how many individuals are killed through the illegal use of semi-automatic firearms, they legally cannot be restricted as a result of such. Especially since they are the most commonly owned type of firearm in existence, and have continually existed since the late nineteenth century.

    https://supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/554/570/

We are aware of the problem of handgun violence in this country, and we take seriously the concerns raised by the many amici who believe that prohibition of handgun ownership is a solution. The Constitution leaves the District of Columbia a variety of tools for combating that problem, including some measures regulating handguns, see supra, at 54–55, and n. 26. But the enshrinement of constitutional rights necessarily takes certain policy choices off the table.

Even if the so-called "study" were indeed valid, it will more than likely become moot upon Brett Kavanaugh being confirmed to the united state supreme court. According to his interpretation of the Heller ruling, simple ownership of commonly available firearms is more than enough for them to qualify as being in common use. Should he become seated, not one single state will be able to legally maintain any of their prohibitions on so-called "assault weapons" or magazines capable of holding more than ten rounds of ammunition, no matter how often they are used for the purpose of committing murder.

Somebody is using progressive bias stats.

The statistic shows the weapon types used in mass shootings in the United States between 1982 and June 2018. These calculations are based on 100 incidents reported by the source*. A total of 49 rifles have been used in 41 mass shootings between 1982 and 2017.
While handguns are the most commonly used weapon type in mass shootings, assault rifles gained attention in public discussion over the suitability or necessity of semi-automatic rifles for the purpose of self-defense. Semi-automatic rifles such as the AR-15 have been used in a number of mass-shootings including the Waffle House shooting in Nashville, Tennessee, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida, and the Colorado Springs shooting rampage.

    WEAPONS USED IN MASS SHOOTINGS

You asked for a list of the weapons that have been used in mass shootings in the United States since the Columbine High School shooting in Littleton, Colorado on April 20, 1999.

We have identified at least 49 mass shootings in the United States since the Columbine shooting. These are incidents where two or more people were killed, not counting the perpetrator.

Table 1 lists each identified mass shooting incident and the weapons used.
Table 1: Weapons Used in Contemporary Mass Shootings
    https://www.cga.ct.gov/2013/rpt/2013-R-0057.htm

You asked for who are actually pulling the trigger at these mass shootings in the United States ?

Except for Stephen Paddock in Las Vegas, they all seem to have been millennial snowflakes or Islamist jihadist who committed the mass shootings.

Admittedly, the researchers may not have been very knowledgeable about US gun laws. One of them was an Australian who was initially unaware that semiautomatic firearms are legal in the US.

"Haider says the study was inspired by Elzerie de Jager, a research fellow from Australia who had joined his team in February. Australia has a ban on semiautomatic weapons, and she was shocked by their presence in the U.S. Haider and Jager started looking for a way to create an apples-to-apples comparison of the lethality of different firearm types. Semiautomatic guns allow a user to fire additional shots simply by pulling the trigger."
    https://www.forbes.com/sites/matthe...s-may-make-mass-shootings-deadlier-study-says

But that does not invalidate the study. The very fact that a semiautomatic rifle can fire a bullet at a significantly higher velocity than a handgun would result in more serious injuries and deaths.

Then they are not actually researchers, and their findings cannot be regarded with any measure of credibility.

Except for the fact that it does not. Such is nothing more than speculation and hypothesis presented by those who lack any actual knowledge pertaining to firearms.

What are you talking about? They are researchers. They do research for the Center for Surgery and Public Health.

The minimum age to buy a handgun is 21. The minimum age to buy a semiautomatic rifle is 18 despite it being a more powerful weapon.

Nearly every rifle caliber is more powerful that nearly every pistol caliber regardless of the type of rifle it's fired from. And "semiauto rifles" are available in pistol calibers, too. As you've been told multiple times, the 223 is about the weakest of all rifle calibers and the FMJ bullet is the least lethal style of bullet.

Your posts are the most ridiculous from a technical and legal standpoint. Learn something about both if you wish your posts to be taken seriously

As stated by yourself, at least one of those involved in the so-called "research" did not even have knowledge of what the firearm-related restrictions in the united states were. As such they cannot truly be qualified as researchers, as they chose to enter the matter blind.

The subject of firearms, both relating to technical matters, and legal matters, is an extremely complex field, filled with complex and even contradictory information that varies from one source to another. This is especially true in the united states, which is wholly unique when compared to any other nation in the world, as it is the only nation that not only has but truly embraces a strong firearms culture amongst the general public. It is because of facts such as these, that a determined effort on the part of myself was made to actually become knowledgeable about the subject in order to cut through the rhetoric, hyperbole, and often times emotional and hysterical screaming by those who are wholly ignorant of the subject and choose to present nothing but blatant falsehoods. Matters of the law, of politics, of the court systems, and even basic physics have been poured over for countless hours in a dedicated effort to possess true knowledge of the basic facts on the subject, wholly removed from any political ideological tainting.

That is ultimately what a researcher does when faced with a specific topic. They educate themselves about all relevant matters that pertain to fact. Their knowledge on the subject needs to be solid enough to survive review and criticism from others searching for errors in their presentation, because ultimately they are putting their own credibility on the line. If what they present is nothing but a false narrative and half-truths, then they are not true researchers, and cannot be regarded as anything more than mere propagandists.

Even if such truly is the case, it makes no legal difference in the matter. Such was held regarding handguns in the Heller and McDonald rulings, when the united state supreme court acknowledged that handguns are the most commonly used type of firearm in the commissions of crimes, especially violent crimes such as murder. This was not enough to justify a prohibition on their legal ownership, nor will it be enough to justify a prohibition on the legal ownership of semi-automatic rifles.

The legal age to purchase any rifle or shotgun is eighteen, regardless of the method of operation. This is not something that can be changed, unless the legal age for purchase is raised for all rifles and shotguns, not simply those that are of a semi-automatic nature.

more weak anti gun propaganda that ignores reality. You are more likely to be killed with a baseball bat or a golf club than a semi auto rifle in the USA

The article cited on the part of yourself is factually incorrect on numerous points. First and foremost, the post being responded to on the part of yourself, specifies semi-automatic rifles, while the article cited by yourself speaks about firearms in general.

Secondly, the article claims that the FBI does not break down the categories of implements used in the commission of murders. Such is not the case, as the FBI does indeed do such.

    https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2016/crime-in-the-u.s.-2016/tables/table-12

Notice how the number of firearm-related deaths is broken down into four specific categories.

    Firearms: 67.8%

Blunt objects (clubs, hammers, etc.): 3.9%

No contest. I win by a landslide.

HERE IS WHAT I SAID-and which you apparently were unable to comprehend

then you talk about FIREARMS deaths. Do you not understand that Firearms do not only mean semi auto rifles OR WERE YOU HOPING, other readers wouldn't pay attention?

you got busted-I said Semi auto rifles

we have to conclude you cannot even understand that most firearms related deaths involve handguns

you lose either way-you either dishonestly tried to deceive other posters with this non-relevant study or you are SO IGNORANT of firearms you don't understand that semi auto rifles are a mere subset of firearms in general

Baseball bats and golf clubs kill more people than even the subset semi-autos? Please, you guys should become comedians.

you got busted for dishonestly misrepresenting things and now you are doubling down on the silliness. I said SEMI AUTO RIFLES. Why don't you use google and get back to us rather than we schooling you again. I spent 24 years as a federal prosecutor-statistics concerning the weapons used are pretty easy to find-even for someone who labors under the delusion that semi auto rifles =all firearms

The next thing you clowns will say is that the Vegas shooter was actually throwing putters out of his hotel room window.
