You:""" For some on your side they want the government to prevent everyone from following a religion.""" WTF!? WHO? WHEN? WHERE? DO back that preposterous claim up with some proof......but you can't, there is none. So WHY did you say it?
That is the impression I get from most atheists. Would you not like the government to do away with all religion?

DO back that preposterous claim up with some proof......but you can't, there is none. So WHY did you say it? WHO are "they" ? WHEN did "they" try to get others to give up their religion? Where did this happen? HOW do they want to use the government ""to prevent everyone from following a religion"" ? WHY would "they" want to prevent everyone from following a religion?
Kindly refrain from projecting your own fallacious "impressions" onto others. As an atheist I uphold your right to believe your theist superstitions but I also uphold the right of everyone else to NOT have your superstitions IMPOSED on this nation and We the People. You can believe whatever you like but you DON'T have any right to dictate to anyone else what they must believe.
There is ZERO evidence of any god/deity/creator and/or supreme being. The complete and utter LACK of any evidence is FACTUAL and has nothing whatsoever to do with "belief".
But we're living in an age where evidence isn't necessary. I mean if you don't believe me just ask NASA? Edit - or the BBC??
The religious wars in Europe are what inspired the Founding Fathers to build the Wall of Separation Between Church and State. I highly recommend learning about them and the atrocities committed in the name of your god.
What has happened in the past has nothing to do with what is happening to you currently. Who has tried to force you to believe in God currently?
Where did I ever claim that it was happening? Kindly respond to what I actually post instead of whatever you imagine I might have posted.
Here in the United States "Church" usually means Christian and funny hats or expensive suits are representations of this.....plus blatant excess in lifestyle or baubles.
Even though I live in Australia, I'm sure if you looked at all of the church denominations (types) in the states, not too many other than the Catholic church would wear so called 'funny' hats! I'm not sure what your perspective is, but I'm fairly sure this would be the case. Southern Baptist for example - I would be quite surprised if they wore funny hats.
Yes, Catholicism definitely has the most extreme and aged ritual remainders (funny hats), but my commentary primarily focused on the money these leaders beg for and spend. Because, as you know that's what Jesus would do.
