How does the 4th Amendment apply in this situation? The state has the tax returns, and the DA simply requests them.

And it a state deems the release of state tax returns to be an asset to elections, the state has the legal right to release them.

It would not be a lawful election if these States kept Trump off the ballot and the SCOTUS ruled in Trump's favor.

The legislature already HAS the actual tax records. What we're discussing here is the disclosure of such to the public, and nobody is saying that will be anything other than voluntary.

You dont have a constitutional right to vote for President. Any state is perfectly within their rights to simply not hold a presidential election and simply allow the electors to decide.

Which would change what in 2020? None of the States in question are Trump strongholds.

SCOTUS just ruled that extreme partisan gerrymandering (aka district packing) is a state’s rights issue, since the states are free to set up their election system as they see fit.

How will the narrative that they cannot mandate universal requirements easily produced but they can require a candidate produce X number of signatures to appear on a ballot and can gerrymander their respective states?

We can only hope in this case. I don't want another loonie democrat in office. Each state better have safeguards at the voting booths. I don't trust certain people.

Can states require a certain number of signatures for an individual to be placed on the ballot?

Something about being secure in one's person from unreasonable search and seizures I think.

You may argue that it is unreasonable for the public to know who they are voting for — thankfully more and more people disagree with you.

No one is being forced to run for POTUS, so that security is voluntarily waived upon application of such position at the will of the state. See consensual search for examples.

The Democrats hunger for Trump's taxes like an old prospector hungers for a gold strike and for much the same reason. If it is intended to serve the public it might do better if it demanded tax returns from all those wealthy Congress men and women along with their net worth before they took office and currently.

I am perfectly fine with all people who write our laws be subject to public disclosures including tax returns.

    Republicans were also before trump.

Tell me, why do you think he is fighting so hard to hide them after promising to release them for two years?

Who will be surprised when the tax returns for the last twenty years for Trump are leaked in early summer next year.

You ask that after just watchin the farce Democrats created out of thin air? Headlines through the election cycle is the goal, headlines like BOMBSHELL REPORT! Remember all the weekly bombshells during the Mueller investigation that Mueller probably had nothing to do with?

Remember that Trump said he would release his tax returns in timely fashion.

In many states, Trump's financial history likely wouldn't allow him to become an insurance agent...but POTUS? Sure, wth.

I have no idea how your response has anything to do with my post.

I asked a question and you responded with a rant. Of course I don’t understand.

His fitness for office was proven on Nov. 8, 2016, as was Hillary's unfitness.

Such a great representation of his position in the Oval Office.

Troll. I can agree with that.
