Seems strange that teachers would need to strike in California. The last time was 30 yrs ago. Teachers Union is powerful and deal with the very people they voted into office/ Board. Classic labor vs management conflict. A 'Democrats-only' problem, of sorts. LAUSD has a significant surplus but don't want to spend it on school faculties/ class size. Teachers have the high ground and are threatening to strike in the Bay Area also. Governor can replace the lost funds w/ state money and end school strikes immediately, in my opinion.

Well at least the children in that state get a short break from the liberal indoctrination being forced upon them.

God wasn't very happy with the teachers striking and he rained all over the strikers today.

The union organizers asked for free (donations) red ponchos for the striking teachers who would be standing in the rain.

The union weren't happy with all of the red ponchos they received with MAGA letters on the back of the ponchos.

The local news reported they threw the donated red pochoes with the "Make America Great Again" logo into the dumpster.

Beggars can't be choosey, unless you're a lefty I suppose.

I'm kinda on the fence with this LAUSD teacher actually union strike.

Starting wage for a teacher is 40 K per year but the average pay is between 70K to 80K but that's not to shabby fir 8 months of work.

But L.A. is in the shithole totalitarian Hermit Kingdom of California.
High taxes, business unfriendly, at the bottom for personal freedoms, high poverty, overpopulation and no affordable housing.

LAUSD has around a 50% dropout rate, most of the students parents are poor and 1/4 of the students don't speak English.

The teachers are complaining about 50 students in the classroom but approved of the progressive Democrats welcome mat at the border that resulted in over population and high coast of living especially for housing.

LAUSD is nothing more than a daycare center for children and gang bangers who haven't dropped out of school yet.

The bottom line is, the LAUSD doesn't have the money !!!

I sense your figures are a bit dubious. Teachers want higher wages due to the high cost of living in California esp in the Bay Area. But the focus is equally on lower class sizes and having a full-time nurse at each school and more counselors who can come into the classroom in order to deal with kids who may be agitated.

What did these teacher unions think was going to happen by supporting the Democrats open border policies in California ?

I just can't see how anyone can comfortably live in California on just $40 K per year.

50 anchor babies and illegal aliens in every classroom !!!

Yes, this is a unique teacher's strike to California. All the players [school board/ teachers/ mayor/ governor] are Democratic. That is why Newsom should stop the strike immediately if that is possible. State has a surplus of $21 billion. The new governor has propose housing or subsidized housing be provided for all those with lower or no incomes.

Governor Newsom is also proposing $200 billion dollars for free healthcare for everyone in California including illegal aliens.

And a free roof over the heads of every illegal alien in California.

And of course the LAUSD will continue being a daycare center for the children of illegal aliens.

The LAUSD and teachers just don't get it, illegal aliens are more important than they are and there's no more money for the LAUSD.

Kinda like the government shut down. Pelosi and the Democrats are saying illegal aliens and asylum seekers are more important than government workers or American citizens on food stamps.

Teachers are not complaining about enrollment but extra resources. Education has been bilingual for ages. California agriculture heavily relies on workers from Mexico. Health care for all is long-overdue. New York and Pacific NW states are preparing for universal health care.

LAUSD school children telling FLOTUS Obama that her PC rabbit food lunch program sucks.
LAUSD students demand tacos and bean burritos not bunny food.

I hope you aren’t too awfully attached to proposition 13, California’s teachers have been eyeballing that gem for more than a few years now. I wouldn’t expect it to stand much longer.

The California state legislature has had 40 years to deal with Prop 13 but instead the Democrats were focused almost exclusively on legislation which either had to do with wealth redistribution or creating new “rights” for alleged victims such as illegal aliens, criminals, union members, homosexuals, transgenders and other “oppressed” groups.

    Replace it with what ?

Going back when retired Americans living on a fix income were losing their homes and thrown on the streets because they kept jacking up property taxes every year.

Yeah, pretty much. The public unions will vote for anything that bolsters their pay and pensions, then retire and likely move out of state to avoid CA taxes. First step will be commercial properties, but once that happens, residential will be up next.

Prop 13 remains untouchable because so many homeowners are Democratic.
