It isn't, but two things would come to my mind. 1 - I am in australia, different to where you are from, but if you are carrying a gun into a school with kids in australia, quite frankly you are not the sharpest tool in the shed and have no place being near my children. 2 - Its an unnecessary risk that it might be put down and a child picks it up, or the teacher loses her marbles, where I would prefer the worst weapon in the room to be some scissors or a ruler then a gun.
Wow. Your opinion of law enforcement is awfully low. Anyone can make up scenarios like this. They prove nothing.
I grew up in the U.K in the 60's-70's...there were far more risks to me as a child than a teacher with a gun... Brits with a gun.
Not the point, and you know that. There's nothing to stop a teacher from taking a weapon to a school and shooting kids, or stabbing them, or anything else. No law on the face of the earth will prevent that.
Gee, children trained with guns, gun safety, and no blood running across the playground... shhhh. Don't tell anyone, particularly if they are liberal.
Whilst I dont want to get bogged down on the efficacy of laws, the law of the land will effect culture. Gilbert Arenas bought guns in his locker room, and his career went to ****. In a lot of other countries players wouldnt even consider that, because of the laws of the land.
You sidestepped his point when you should have agreed with it. Tsk. Laws do not protect you from harm, the only punish people after they have harmed you.
In a previous thread I have already agreed, that if a law/regulation will not be enforced / achieve anything, there is no point implementing. I think we will disagree on what laws would achieve, but it is an argument for another day with another person.
AGain, bull****. Criminals have no regard for the law. Right now your gun crimes are going up so much, that the desperate politicians in your country are doing another round of "buy backs" to try and convince people it will have some kind of effect. It won't. Your country is creating the perfect environment for criminals and illegal weapon sales.
Why I trained my girls to defend themselves, with and without guns, starting about age 4-5. They don't stick forks in electrical outlets, wear safety glasses when using power tools and know what creatures might be dangerous or not... armed with knowledge not led by fear.
Really? The many anti gun types here seem to think the mere presence of a gun spells violence... they must influence behavior by some means... oh wait, I didn't figure in mind control.
Well as a fellow parent, one would hope you could respect another parents right to keep there children away from risks as you have with your own.
Again, I am not in the camp of guns are inherently evil, they are a machine, And to me like any dangerous machine whether it be a crane to a car to a tank to a gun, should have some sort of regulation / education on whom and how it is used. But this goes to my point, why are all the cool kids in the cool club towing lines of absolutes on this even when they dont agree with certain stuff?
I prefer it that way. At least I can admit to it. I can admit to the weaknesses of gun regulation and of a society that does not have individuals carrying weapons on masse. I know plenty of australians who never had weapons in aus, who now have them in america. There is a cultural difference between our nations in respect of guns, where in some places it is the done thing there. I accept that. What strengths can you admit to of a society that has effective gun regulation and a culture of individuals not carrying weapons?
The difficulty lays with determining just what amounts to risk. Does legally possessing a concealed firearm, even by someone with only rudimentary understanding, pose greater risk to minors than operation of a motor vehicle? Especially when minors may run around the motor vehicle because they do not understand that it is dangerous?
