January, 2005. I should know, I was there. In the Belichick era, they have been to 5 Super Bowls, winning 3 of them. Yes, they've lost their last 2. However, there isn't a single fan of a single team in football that wouldn't love to have the same success the Patriots have had since Belichick took over the team, even if it means a couple Super Bowl losses in there.

Anyone that is truly knowledgeable about the Patriots history - like myself - knows that even without that injury Mo Lewis levelled on Drew Bledsoe, Brady was going to take over as starter anyway. Maybe not quite that week, but it was going to happen. Belichick was getting increasingly frustrated with Montana Drew Bledsoe and his 5-13 record.

Montana was selected in the 3rd round and 5 QB's were selected ahead of Dan Marino, including Ken O'Brien, Todd Blackledge and Tony Eason... so Brady isn't the first QB that the NFL totally underestimated in the draft.

So tell me which fan base wouldn't want to go back over the past decade or so and go to five SuperBowls......winning two......and it would have been three if Asante Samuel doesn't drop an easy pick of Eli the play before "helmet catch"........Bellichick can't catch the ball for Asante......

Excellent point and that is exactly what happens in practice and the film room. You try to plan for everything you may see in your opponent and that takes an extraordinary amount of time..The defense needs to see every possible formation of which the opposing offense may line up in based on previous game film, every possible wrinkle that is thrown into the offensive play book and personnel exchanges that take place during the course of the game in down and distance situations.

Tebow can play H-back, could be used as a Tight End in certain situations, Wild Cat QB, he could play Full Back, he can play QB or he could be used as a slot receiver. The mixes and matches he could be used in could help create personnel match up problems for the opposing defense. Good point

True, but what you see today offensively, is that college offenses are creating the what the NFL is doing offensively so college QB's in particular duel threat QB's, are running the show with very similar styles and schemes from which they ran in College.

The west coast style, all timing, quick hitting offenses are quickly morphing into spread zone read types of offenses, which brings the QB into the running game. tHIS USED TO NOT be the case, however becuse of the extreme pressure a running QB puts on a defense, it's now quickly becoming more of the norm.

Mallett is plumb dumb. Petrino even dumbed down the offense at Arkansas so he could run it. Furthermore, Mallett has already gotten beaten out .........in college!! He was once a Wolverine!

However, by posting Swope's 40 time, what you are really doing is making the point that SPEED is a huge culprit to getting drafted and also making and staying on a team...Hence the fact that Vick can still run mid 4.4's, which places him as the fastest QB to ever play the game and still is. We can call Vick whatever we want, but he's still crazy fast, in other words, he can go 88 and out the gate in a heartbeat and defenses don't like that much!

Well, you are talking about the NFL and in the NFL, IF you do not have stats, your contract get hammered. So, in the players defense, he almost HAS TO make it all about him so he can get paid! It's unfortunate and one of the many ugly sides of the NFL or Not For Long league.

I think Belicek is thinking more like the highly successful 49er zone read option game.

If speed is so important to getting drafted and staying on a team in the NFL......then why was Ryan Swope, who ran a 4.28 at the combine not drafted until the 6th round?

So the Superbowls they won were because of Belichick, but the ones they lost were because of the players. That makes sense.

Speed IS the reason he was drafted. All things being equal, all the wide outs in the NFL can catch. The great equalizer in football is always speed, because that is one tangible that can not be coached. It's a birthright type of thing. There were other factors to why Swope was NOT drafted until later in the rounds. His biggest slam on him was the fact that he struggles at times against press coverages and not being explosive out of his stance. Actually, I agree with some of the concerns placed on him, although I do believe he will make a fine receiver in the NFL. But back to the point of discussion, again, it WAS and IS his speed that got him drafted in the first place and his speed will keep him in the NFL. Same argument for Vick. The speed is always the difference.

Well now.....if speed is so important then why was Swope drafted in the sixth round......he ran the third best forty at the combine amongst WRs......he ran the third best forty but is "not explosive out of his stance"........LOL.......the hits just keep coming.

you are not reading what I'm saying...SPEED IS THE REASON HE WAS DRAFTED...regardless of what round. He has had other problems that scouts have been concerned with, mainly the fact that against press coverage, he has had a tendency of getting jammed at the LOS. YES, he ran a blazing fast 40, HOWEVER his TOP end speed comes later in his forty, not at the beginning. There are many players that have fast 40 times but their first few steps out of the gate are not that fast. HE IS AN EXAMPLE OF THAT. It takes him until about 15 yards before he starts pulling away and if you know anything about routes in football, there are only a few where you are running past 15 yards. I'll name them for you. The fade, deep post, deep comeback, and post corner. That's it. the rest are all fast hitting timing routes.

Tebowz problem is that he has no football IQ. He has book smarts but that doesn't always translate to a football IQ. I've coached players who have to always take summer school to make grades that have off the charts football IQ. I've also coached honors students who are football retards.

Simple he has a hiht top speed but doesn't accelerate very fast.

You know who the fastest players off the line are? The o-line and d-line. But they don't have the top speed of the skill players.

I remember in college the coaches were trying to see what this running back could do at end. First day he commented on how amazed he was at how fast things move in the line. And that is only college ball. The pros are ungodly quick. I was breaking down film on Indy for my players. Saturday was unreal. The ball would be halfway to Manning, Saturday would already have his first step down and not a single other player on either team would have moved in he slightest.

Can you provide me with some links that talk about Swope's forty time being all at the back end of the forty and how he can't play against press coverage........haven't seen those........its funny how when a white kid runs a great objective 40.....suddenly we have all of these subjective tests of th forty time like "tendency to get jammed"......lol. I saw an article the other day talking about Swope's superior 40 time and then said....."but he doesn't always play as fast as his 40 time" or some such nonsense......I guess we got to keep coming up with excuses about not recruiting, drafting and playing the fast White athletes.......funny stuff.

He doesn't posses the strength to get off the line of scrimmage against NFL caliber corners. That can change, but the person you are arguing against thinks whites should just be handed everything while blacks should have to bust their ass for a contract no matter how talented they are. Can't have a white receiver work hard and make it like a Donald driver who was drafted in the 7th and worked hard to become the Packers all time leading receiver.

Donald Driver ran a 4.45.....not the 4.28 that Swope ran at the combine. As far as "NFL caliber cornerbacks" go.....Swope played in the SEC where most of those "NFL caliber cornerbacks" come from......and he burned their black asses over and over again. And where do you get that Swope "doesn't possess the strength to get of the line against NFL calibre cornerbacks".......I can only assume you pulled it out of your ass.

Swope had a better 20 yard shuttle time than seven of the afroletes drafted ahead of him..........LMAO at the excuses......I'll give y'all an 'A' for creativity......

Lets see his stats against corners who were drafted. Out of 9000 collegiate players 215 get drafted. Something like 2.5%

Dude, relax your tone. I love Swope. I think he will be lights out in the NFL. I'm not arguing against or for any race when it comes to athletic performance. I just want the best, period. All I'm saying is this. He is blazing fast, no doubt, but he is not blazing quick as in being that guy who is dangerous in space. VERTICAL threat? you bet, but making guys miss in space is a complete different story. There are many "track guys" that are huge vertical threats, but are fair in space. In other words, they have to gather their feet before they cut, which is where you lose speed and allows for back side pursuit to close on you. What you want is a guy who can plant their foot and get vertical without losing speed. It's also why A&M moved him much of the time to slot so he wouldn't have to face pressing corners.

I coach college ball and have been to may of his practices at A&M. He's a big dawg for sure. I've seen his coach, David Beatty get frustrated with him coming out of his stance facing press corners who jam. I can tell you more about Swope than you will want to know. He is a great kid and a very good receiver, but everyone comes with some sort of flaw. His flaw is, playing in space and getting off press corners who jam...thats it and that is enough to move you down the draft list.

Well now....here are Swopes stats against magical SEC apponents:

    Auburn: 6 catches; 140 yards; 2 TDs
    LSU: 10 catches; 81 yards
    Bama: 11 catches; 111 yards; 1 TD
Ms. St.: 9 catches; 121 yards
    Ark'sas: 5 catches; 141 yards; 1 TD

Clearly, Swope struggled against those vaunted SEC cornerbacks......LMAO all night long. On those five teams he played against 5 drafted cornerbacks including three drafted in the first three rounds......clearly he has a lot to prove.....

And don't worry about Swope actually getting to play in the NFL.....he will be relegated to "white practice squad" status so that the real afroletes (who ran 4.5s) can show their amazing athletic ability to the screaming hordes of drunk white fans who will talk about "how fast they are"......Swope will be selling life insurance in Omaha in a couple of years after his wife convinces him to quit following this "ridiculous dream" of playing WR while white in the NFl.
