I would bring up the subject of responsible sex

And we would bring up the fact that we have talked about responsible sex for decades - who was it who brought condoms out from behind the counter so that people had easier access - sure the hell wasn't Republicans. And we would point out that condoms and other birth control has a three - five percent failure rate - but that would go over your head.

And you should read the decision of Roe v. Wade - most of the judges felt that any law prohibiting abortion could not be enforced in any realistic manner.
And that was prior to the advent of the day-after-pill and 50 years of abortion on demand.
As for declining morals ... hell, the Founding Fathers were not against abortion. Abortion was not illegal in this country until the 1860's.
