In a sane world, Jane Mayer’s excellent piece on Ginni Thomas in The New Yorker would set off a series of events that would lead to her husband Clarence Thomas’s impeachment and removal from the Supreme Court. Ginni is involved with numerous far-right organizations and schemes that take very public positions on court decisions across a range of social and political issues, such as last week’s 8–1 holding that Donald Trump could not block the release of documents related to the January 6, 2021, insurrection.

Thomas was the lone dissenter in that case. His wife sat on the advisory board of a group that sent busloads of insurrectionists to Washington on January 6. In addition, she cheered the insurrection on Facebook. It’s just the most recent example where she has been involved in activities that directly or indirectly place her activism before the court, and her husband does not care how corrupt it looks.

They’ve been doing this for years. This first occasion was back in 2000, in a case Mayer doesn’t even go into, when it was revealed after that election that as a Heritage Foundation staffer, Ginni was screening résumés for the incoming Bush administration while the nation awaited a ruling from the court on the Florida recount. There was pressure then on Thomas to recuse himself.

The evidence warranting his impeachment is unassailable. No one is saying the wife of a SC justice can't be active in politics. But her activities have in numerous instances demanded that Clarence recuse himself from ruling on certain cases. Something he has repeatedly refused to do.

Justice Thomas Ignores Repeated Calls for Recusal

    https://fixthecourt.com/2014/11/thomas-ignores-repeated-calls-recusal/

In this sense he's an example of the norm busting behavior that's become commonplace in the POT. Part and parcel of the "the ends justifies the means" approach they've adopted in pursuit of their destructive agenda.

Yeah, his wife has most certainly drawn a lot of attention to herself with some weird ****. This puts him in a tight spot. Never-the-less, I can't see him being impeached over this. He might be well served by recusing himself from certain cases SCOTUS is adjudicating however.

    Source for this please:
His wife sat on the advisory board of a group that sent busloads of insurrectionists to Washington on January 6. In addition, she cheered the insurrection on Facebook.

What evidence was there that the people they sent were the ones who stormed the capitol and not the THOUSANDS who didn’t.

Yes, well, that's the point. Recusal has clearly been called for a number of times yet he has refused. It's not a trivial matter. It's fundamentally corrupt. Especially when large sums of money his wife is being paid may be weighing on his decisions.

I don't believe this is uncommon. It may not be reported much but this type of "conflict of interests" exists in ALL professions.

    * Doctors treat their family and friends (usually providing more interests in resolving their heath issues).
    * Police officers protect their own and they respond faster if the emergency has anything to do with their loved ones.
    * Mechanics work for shorter times and less cost for their family and friends.
    * Fast food employees give their family and friends more that they ordered and paid for.
    * Orange people appoint their equally awful inexperienced offspring for top government positions.

This happens all the time across every industry.

Thomas has always been a snobbish and pointless addition to the SC so this is exactly his agenda.

What you're describing is the normalization of corruption. It's one of the things that was most feared when the most corrupt prez in history took office 5 years ago.

And he appointed 3 SC judges who don’t always agree with each other instead of behaving like political drones.

Reminds me when Gov. McAuliffe, (Virginia) a strong Hillary Clinton ally and friend, financially influenced Comey's wife giving her
nearly $500,000 to her election campaign while Comey was investigating Clinton.

Or Gov McAuliffe donating $467,500 to the state Senate campaign of Jill McCabe, who is married to Andrew McCabe, who was the deputy director of the FBI also investigating Clinton.

Two of those justices having been nominated by means of McTreason's corrupt abuse of power.

But this thread is about whether Thomas has abused his seat on the bench by refusing to recuse himself in cases where there is a clear conflict of interest.

This is the standard of behavior SC justices should be held to.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor is recusing herself from a Supreme Court case over the issue of “faithless electors” — Electoral College representatives who disregard the will of voters in presidential elections — because of her friendship with one of the parties involved in the lawsuit. The clerk of the court informed the parties of the move on Tuesday.
    https://thehill.com/regulation/cour...cuses-herself-from-case-on-faithless-electors

Why are liberals coloring inside the lines when conservatives have little to no regard for following the rules........written and otherwise.

You can't impeach a Supreme court justice because you don't like them or because you made a claim (without links) or because he doesn't recuse himself.

Thomas has to actually commit an illegal act to be impeached. Which he hasn't done.

She started as a congressional aide in the 1980s, became a midlevel Republican operative, then briefly left politics, reemerging in 2009 as founder of a tea party group before stepping down amid continued questions about whether her actions were appropriate for the spouse of a Supreme Court justice.

Now, Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, wife of Justice Clarence Thomas, has recast herself yet again, this time as the head of a firm, Liberty Consulting, which boasts on its website using her “experience and connections” to help clients “with “governmental affairs efforts” and political donation strategies.

Should this be allowed? Absolutely not.

For the first time in my life, I do not feel hopeful about our future. You could have made a million bucks off me because nobody would have been able to convince me that an evil lunatic would turn so many of our fellow Americans into blind adherents no matter what he does that more than proves he has never been honest or decent a day in his miserable narcissistic life. I'm heartbroken and ashamed.

I feel the same way. Previous to Trump I thought my faith in America and Americans to be unshakable. Now it's shaken to its core.

You have neither no clue nor no care about impeaching judges, not that it matters, I'm sure. Hint: not liking a judge doesn't cut it..

You are in good company on the left. It seems like an endemic problem there. Personally I have very little faith in federal government but great faith in the nation and its people.

We need to put the SC under the same ethic rules as the rest of the judiciary. It’s quite shocking they aren’t. Robert’s has been resisting the calls believing they can police their own.

All this “gentleman’s agreement” nonsense has run its course it’s past time we codified everything across the system. Live within the rules of the job(s) or go home.

Mixed race couples have faced discrimination for many decades. It seems that is going to continue.....

When will our society achieve equality ? When will folks like Justice Thomas and his wife be able to live without being attacked?
