The Correct Amount of Illegal Immigration?

Thats my position. Make it so the only people coming here are doing it to work their asses off. Once accomplished, I'd frankly be fine with open borders.

 

They are not enforcing any of the laws that maintain our sovereignty.

Most unlawfully present persons need to commit numerous criminal offenses just to remain on the soil... up to and including some pretty serious felonies like fraud and forgery. But hell, we're not even incarcerating murderers any longer, so what the **** immigration????

I already stated that upthread. However at this time it is more than the draw of unlawful employment - for example an administration that has literally bent over backward not just to welcome unlawfully present persons, but it putting them up in hotels that go for $200/night and flying them around in unmarked jets at 3AM.

Until laws, processing and enforcement can catch up it will be an issue.
How can anyone put a number on that? The economy has needed those migrant workers since the founding.

Employers use them or likely go out of business and that likely will impact food availability and costs.

And neither party has addressed illegal employers. And I figure there is an economic reason for that.

People will do what they have to do to eat, house, and clothe.
As long as we let employers employ them without consequences, we will always have them. Employers are just as illegal as the immigrants.

And also: flying them around the country on unmarked planes; lodging them in $200/night hotel rooms w/ free meals, swimming pool, hot tubs - NO COVID TEST OR VAXX REQUIRED (cuz they're not gonna be here that long right Jen?); free school for the kiddos; free or very low-cost medical care provided by the taxpayers from the most advanced healthcare system in the world; free legal services provided by the taxpayers; uterus lottery should you be lucky enough to expel a small human on the soil; driver licenses; nobody bothering you about your "status"; in-state college tuition in places like California; all the public benefits you want if you are willing to commit just a few felonies - and why wouldn't you since we no longer prosecute felonies; getting to use your arrest paperwork as legal ID... the list goes on and on and on ad nauseum. Not a bad deal!

There has always been a number of permanent residents in the US who are not citizens. Freezing their bank accounts may not be such a good idea.
However that is a niggly point.
The OP is written in such a way as to answer its own question. ILLEGAL immigration is of course, illegal, so the answer is always none.
A more honest question would leave out the word "illegal".
In answer to the OP, the answer depends on how many immigrants arriving without visas have applied for asylum.
If they have, they have a right to remain in the US until their application is heard.
Their right to asylum depends on whether they are determined as being refugees or not as described in the 1951/67 UN convention on Refugees.

If they are not refugees they should be deported.

 

I feel part of the solution should be a simple process for a worker’s visa. Not citizenship, or entitlements, or right to vote in our federal elections, but a simple worker’s visas issued when you pass a criminal background check, and if you entered the country illegally you should be made to pay a fine first. If you violate our labor laws by working under the local minimum wage you risk losing your visa

As for how many immigrants we need, I actually believe the free market does a good job determining how many workers it needs

 

The law is not always followed or enforced. Many people drive 5-7 MPH over the speed limit because it's known most cops won't pull one over at that speed. So, they aren't following the rule of law.
But I get what you're saying.
Which is why I suggested the number will go closer to ZERO, if we enforce the rule of law closer to the source. Employers that hire illegals. No jobs, most illegals don't come.

 

Under the current administration, they will still come. At least until Kommie-La finishes its investigation of "root causes."
