You forgot to mention that the federal Judge Alvin Hellerstein who released him from prison found that Cohen's incarceration was retaliatory.

    https://www.politico.com/news/2020/07/23/court-orders-michael-cohens-release-379941
“I’ve never seen such a clause, in 21 years of being a judge, sentencing people and looking at terms and conditions of supervised release, I’ve never seen such a clause,” Hellerstein said during a 35-minute telephone hearing Thursday on a habeas corpus petition Cohen filed seeking his release. “How can I take any other inference but that it was retaliatory?”

I see. So you choose to blame Dems for using a tactic to help ensure the weakest Repub candidate won the primary but not the Repubs for creating the conditions for delusional election deniers to have a chance to win in the first place? C'mon man.

Indeed. It says we focus on what is important. We are not swayed by the siren call of a self-interested demagogue. Nor are we persuaded that the propensity for gaffes takes priority over character, putting the country first, and policies grounded in a desire to make America a better, safer place to live for all its inhabitants.

As a Repub, you have no legs to stand on in a debate like this. Your hollow laughter notwithstanding.

I guess you thought "LMAO" and an emoji were enough to explain why you thought pointing out Dems weren't duped by a greasy conman was funny. It wasn't.

Speaking of greasy conmen your party fell for..........

Weisselberg testifies Trump Org. also saved money from illegal tax practices

NEW YORK — Allen Weisselberg, the longtime finance chief at Donald Trump’s real estate, golf resort and hospitality company, testified Thursday that the Trump Organization saved money as a result of illegal tax practices that also benefited him. Weisselberg, 75, pleaded guilty in August to evading taxes and has been promised a sentence of five months in jail in exchange for testifying in a separate trial targeting Trump’s business.

On Thursday, he described how the company dodged payroll taxes on executive bonuses by issuing them from entities that were also under the Trump Organization umbrella, instead of from the Trump Corporation itself.

The company did not stop that evasive practice until “around the time Mr. Trump became president” in 2017, Weisselberg alleged. Prosecutors have presented evidence at the trial that an internal review by a tax attorney in 2017 identified potentially problematic practices at the company.

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland names Trump special counsel for criminal probes

A special counsel is expected to be named Friday by Attorney General Merrick Garland to determine whether criminal charges should be filed against former President Donald Trump.

The announcement is being made days after Trump said he would run for the White House again in 2024.

    https://www.cnbc.com/2022/11/18/watch-attorney-general-garland-names-trump-special-counsel-.html

This is Merrick doing a CYA in anticipation of Trump's baseless accusations that the DoJ has been compromised. He was in a position of being criticized no matter what he did.

Sadly for you I am not a Republican. Hate both parties

As far as I know, they all lost, but what if a few had won - would that be good for democracy? No it would not. All both parties care about is being in power and manipulate the voters into believing their BS

The fact that you aren't a Repub doesn't change the nature of the false equivalence. Your failure is in not distinguishing between a party that supports a traitor to the Constitution and one that recognizes traitorous acts for what they are.

Pence draws ire of Jan. 6 committee for 'closing the door' on testimony

Former Vice President Mike Pence said in a new interview that he won't provide testimony to the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, drawing criticism from the panel's leaders, who called his decision "disappointing."

In a CBS News interview that aired Wednesday evening, Pence claimed when asked whether he would sit for questioning that Congress has “no right” to his testimony, adding, "I’m closing the door on that."

Pence criticized the makeup of the committee, which has two Republicans, Reps. Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois.

Manhattan Prosecutors Move to Jump-Start Criminal Inquiry Into Trump

The Manhattan district attorney’s office has moved to jump-start its criminal investigation into Donald J. Trump, according to people with knowledge of the matter, seeking to breathe new life into an inquiry that once seemed to have reached a dead end.

Under the new district attorney, Alvin L. Bragg, the prosecutors have returned to the long-running investigation's original focus: a hush-money payment to a porn star who said she had an affair with Mr. Trump.

The district attorney’s office first examined the payment to the actress, Stormy Daniels, years ago before changing direction to scrutinize Mr. Trump’s broader business practices. But Mr. Bragg and some of his deputies have recently indicated to associates, supporters and at least one lawyer involved in the matter that they are newly optimistic about building a case against Mr. Trump, the people said.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/21/nyregion/trump-bragg-stormy-daniels.html

In December 2020, the F.E.C. issued an internal report from its Office of General Counsel on how to proceed in its review. The office said it had found “reason to believe” violations of campaign finance law were made “knowingly and willfully” by the Trump campaign.

But the election commission — split evenly between three Republicans and three Democratic-aligned commissioners — declined to proceed in a closed-door meeting in February. Two Republican commissioners voted to dismiss the case while two Democratic commissioners voted to move forward. There was one absence and one Republican recusal.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2021/05/06/us/politics/trump-michael-cohen-fec.html

IOW, the case of the illegal hush money payments made in an attempt to defraud the American people has yet to be fully pursued. Repubs on the FEC protected Don just the way Senate Repubs did by acquitting him of impeachment charges. Both groups turned a blind eye to the evidence.

Supreme Court Permits House Democrats to Obtain Trump’s Tax Returns

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Tuesday cleared the way for a House committee to receive former President Donald J. Trump’s tax returns, refusing his request to block their release in the waning weeks of Democratic control of the chamber.

The court’s order, which was unsigned and did not note any dissents, is the most recent instance in which it has sided against Mr. Trump, who appointed three justices to the bench. The decision means that the Treasury Department is likely to soon turn over Mr. Trump’s financial documents to the House, which has been seeking them since 2019.

Mr. Trump’s legal team had urged the justices to extend a lower court’s stay as it pursued an appeal before the Supreme Court, saying the House’s request raised issues that were too important to let the Treasury Department turn over his files before they were resolved.

DOJ seeking to question Pence in criminal probe of Trump trying to stay in White House, report says

The Department of Justice wants to question former Vice President Mike Pence for its criminal investigation of ex-President Donald Trump’s efforts to remain in the White House after he lost the 2020 election, The New York Times reported Wednesday.

Pence is considering cooperating with the probe, which last week saw Attorney General Merrick Garland appoint a special counsel to oversee the investigation, according to the Times.

Pence previously refused to cooperate with the select House committee that is investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

“Thomas Windom, one of the lead investigators examining the efforts to overturn the election, reached out to Mr. Pence’s team in the weeks before” Garland appointed special counsel Jack Smith for that probe, the Times reported.

Kellyanne Conway meets with Jan. 6 committee for nearly 5 hours

WASHINGTON — Former Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway met for nearly five hours Monday with investigators on the House committee probing the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol. The committee did not publicly issue Conway a subpoena, and aides refused to comment on whether she was issued one privately. The panel declined to comment on her appearance Monday.

The closed-door meeting took place at the O’Neill House Office Building, where Conway was seen entering a conference room with attorney Emmet Flood, a lawyer in former President Donald Trump’s White House. Conway spoke to the committee on the record, two sources familiar with her appearance said.

Speaking to reporters around 3 p.m. after the meeting ended, Conway said she did not invoke the Fifth Amendment at any point Monday.
