Ukrainian forces have staged a counter-offensive in areas around Ukraine's second-largest city of Kharkiv, local officials said Saturday.

In a statement on Telegram, Oleh Syniehubov, the head of the Kharkiv regional administration, said, "We are not only defending our positions, but also liberating our temporarily occupied land. Several settlements were liberated, and fighting for our territories is underway in the direction Rohan. Fighting also continues in the Izium direction and Chuhuiv direction."

CNN could not immediately verify that claim. Kharkiv, in northeastern Ukraine, has come under intense shellfire since Russian forces invaded in late February.

Syniehubov said the city "was shelled only 24 times overnight. Which now can be considered a relatively small amount."

Kostiantyn Nemichev, a far-right Kharkiv politician and member of the nationalist Azov battalion, said "Yesterday was very productive day, and a few settlements were liberated," and posted pictures of what purported to be Russian prisoners of war.

CNN cannot independently verify claims of territory changing hands in that region.

 

Of course, this does not change the fact that Russia is liberating Ukraine from fascism.
Even the president of Ukraine and other Ukrainian politicians understand that Russia is conducting a special operation and Russia is right. Therefore, until now Ukraine has not declared war on Russia.
And by the way, Russian gas still continues to pump freely through the territory of Ukraine.

I think Ukraine should send an 'exercise' group into Russia and kill a few ten thousand of Russians.

How about a bit of realism. This is the news as of yesterday:

Russia announced today that the first phase of its military operation in Ukraine has been completed and the Dombass Republics now control 93% of the Luhansk region and 54% of the Donetsk region. It will now focus on liberating all of the Donbass region in eastern Ukraine.

"The main objectives of the first stage of the operation have been broadly achieved," said Sergei Rudskoi, head of the operational directorate of the Russian general staff.

"The fighting potential of the Ukrainian armed forces has been significantly damaged. The Ukrainian Air Force and air defenses have been almost destroyed. The Ukrainian Navy practically does not exist.

This makes it possible to focus our core efforts on achieving our main goal, the liberation of the Donbass."

Earlier on Friday Russia today announced the deaths of 1,351 of its soldiers since the start of its military offensive in Ukraine a month ago, accusing Western countries of committing a "mistake" by supplying weapons to Kiev.

The real issue with Putin (remember, not Russia, Putin) is this - Ukraine could become another prosperous
EU nation smack on the Russian border, and with many Russians having close ties to both sides of that
border. And Ukraine will be rich - and Russia poor.
Sure, the Baltics are fascist and NATO members too. Ukraine is 'little Russia' and it will have freedoms and
wealth that 'big Russia' cannot have due to corruption and fascism.
