    What is the point of militarily conquering a sovereign nation killing a portion of it's population and destroying as much of it's buildings and infrastructure as you possibly can??? The people of the conquered country are only going to hate you and look for every opportunity to cause you problems and look for every opportunity to reverse your conquest of them.

    Pentagon: Russians left Chernobyl and left Gostomel airport

    “Russian troops have most likely left the Gostoml airport near Kiev and retired mainly from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant,” a senior Pentagon official said Thursday. He added that, despite the focus of Russian actions in the Donbas, so far the Russians have not made significant progress there.

    A spokesman for the US Department of Defense during a briefing for journalists said that the retreat of Russian troops from positions north of Kyiv, including from the Antonov airfield in Gostoml, is an admission of the failure of the operation to capture the Ukrainian capital.

    The official added that Ukrainian troops attacked Russian troops retreating to Belarus. Gostoml airport was one of the first targets of the Russian advance on Kyiv, and landing attempts were made here several times.

    Gostomel is the place where some of Russia best died in first 3 days of the war.
    Ukrainians should put a memorial to Russian stupidity there. :lol:

    Fascists don’t care about the lives of their enemies.
    Fascists don’t care about the lives of their own subjects.
    To a fascist, the empire is the top priority. That means that if it suits the empire, they are willing to suffer major economic setbacks. It also means they are willing to sacrifice the well being of their own troops, like ordering them to dig trenches in a forest that was affected by nuclear fallout. They also think that most of their neighbors should join the empire, even if that mean that the liberties and quality of life of the new subjects of their empire is significant degraded.

    This is the Russian fascism on display for everyone to see.

    I'm not a fan of Russia but that wasn't my question but I hope you got it all out of your system regardless.

    Surely there had to have been some purpose for them loitering around a very well-known radioactive site other than "because fascist"

    No, a destroyed helicopter would do, as these diversion groups used choppers to land, and Ukrainians shot down a few.
    I actually think that Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Mariupol should each leave one destroyed city block untouched - fence it, along with all corpses and leftovers of destroyed weapons and military equipment. They should keep them like that for all future generations of Ukrainians to see what kind of “brother nations” Russia and Belarus are, to eliminate all possible future attempts to normalize relationships with these countries. Ukrainians should never forget 2022!
