The people who believe in religion are simply scared of death. To be an atheist you have to confront death, and that is scary, but you quickly realize that this is your only chance and that death will not be hell. It will be like a dream that you cannot remember, like nothingness.

There is nothing after death? Have evidence to back up the claim?

Yes. I killed a bug, and nothing happened. This experiment is repeatable with other test subjects.

Your OP makes a claim based upon incomplete evidence as no one knows for sure what happens after death.

He may be right about the nothing idea.
The issue that is important here is to remember that we came from a special genetic code which is still in the blood of the living people.
We will come back in the future.
And, we will become able to remember our own past.

That cockroach has come back many times during the 225 million years cockroaches have existed.

For you there will be nothing after death, and that's the problem because your soul will still exist. Only there won't be anyone to talk to and even if there was there wouldn't be anything to talk about. So unless you're prepared for another type of existence, you are in hell. And the more involved you are with worldly concerns and gains, the greater your hell will be.

I mean just imagine it. You won't be able to listen to jokes, because even if you could, there would be nothing you can relate them to, and you won't be able to talk about politics, again because there will be nothing to relate them to. You can't go to a movie and discuss it with your friends, or a restaurant. And the worse part of all is knowing that you have no hope. You are there for all eternity...and all by yourself.

What do you mean nothing happened?

Is that hell or just after an argument with my wife?

    Nah,...
Hell is when your genetic line of ascent ends, and your type of person no longer in born onto the world.
You are extinct like the dinosaurs.

It's true that no one knows for sure, but it's also true that there's no reason to think that anything "happens" after death.

Except I will be dead, so I won't notice. You will have the same fate as me. There is no soul.

My thinking on death is, it's light's out, show's over. Like unplugging a pc, the screen goes black and the programs stop running. Except, the body decomposes and there's no way to reboot.

We still have crocodiles and alligators around and they seem to be permanent fixtures. So we're OK.

Until we die....no one can "Know" what if anything happens. So we instead make up what we want it to be.....kinda like the whole God thing.

The cockroaches all were born from their own genetic code which reproduces the Unconscious mind again.
The same thing happens to us, too.
But we are learning to recognize our Unconscious mind at work in our thinking.
What is about to happen just as we became aware of our Subconscious mind today, is that we shall be born again and remember we past lives.

    1) Crocks are born knowing they are crocks and acting accordingly.
    2) Humans already faces extinction 40 millennium ago.
The next one could eliminate all men who did not see this coming.
    3) Our genes will disappear unless we learn to survive.

    - - - Updated - - -

    Genetics tells us what happens.
    All life is born again.

Well....There is nothing before birth either, yet here we all are.....Or are we? We could be dead that this could be Hell. We know not where we came from and we know not where we are going are even where we are. Classic human dilemma.

I know of no reason to think that anything "happens" after death. Do you?

I think solipsism, not nihilism, is what is at play here. There will be something after your death. Not for you, perhaps, but for whoever gets left behind. People cannot encompass nothing at a personal level, so they invent religion. You will find the answer one day...or not. Either way, you won't be around to tell us.
