There are plenty of good Christian professional athletes out there, and I have no idea why Tebow is singled out in that respect either...perhaps the pathological nature of this goes both ways...

I myself am Catholic and I will feely admit part of my defense of Tebow is a shared faith...however I do not hold any credence in a divine order of things as it applies to professional or even amateur athletics. An atheist has as good a chance at being a champion as a Muslim, Jewish or Christian...I think what draws the Christian fan towards liking Tebow is the appearance of persecution towards his faith. Whether real or not, I can't say...

Would people defend Tebow if he was an avowed Muslim and prayed towards Mecca?
Probably not with the same fervor as those who defend Tebow as a Christian. There's some truth to that...

Hey if it gets folks excited about a game to have an emotional interest in a player and if a Christian likes Tebow because they see him as a fellow believer that's understandable...

I don't know why the media focused so much on Tebow and the NFL as an institution did this as well...I think that he's so polarizing, it gets people interested in the game to either root for or against him...

As I say though, I have no real emotional investment in his success. I'm not a Broncos fan, and Tebow is not the only Christian NFL player out there...I lived through all this stuff before with Kurt Warner and Issac Bruce who would often openly pray at games. The Tebow phenomenon isn't new in terms of the polarizing effect openly religious players have on the fan base.

I recall many years ago seeing Don Shula the former coach of the Miami Dolphins at a Mass...at the time I was a Redskins fan and silently prayed...please don't listen to Shula's prayers...

I can joke about it now really, praying for victory in sports is not what faith is about...
God, I would think, has far more to be concerned about than Millionaires playing a kid's game owned by Billionaires.

I just like Tebow's "aw shucks" attitude, it's kind of refreshing, that's why I like him, but his skills are certainly debateable.

Just to be perfectly clear...what I'm about to say has nothing to do with his faith.

This is BS. He is not even that great of a QB!!! He wasn't even supposed to be the starting QB for the Broncos this past season! People seem to forget that. Making it to the play offs was luck for the Broncos and even more luck that they beat the Steelers. The Patriots handed them their butts. The only reason why he has so much attention on him is because you have one pathetic side that gives him crap because of his faith and then you have the other pathetic side that praises him because of his faith. Religion has nothing to do with the NFL. If you can't like him or dislike him based on his actual athletic abilities then I wish you would shut your mouth.

I was WRONG! the NFL is still good, I'm impressed! The total sell out series would have been GB V Tebow in the Superbowl, that would generated way more money than what's left. Congrats to the NFL for letting them play!

Yes, he throws the ball poorly. So poorly, even the highly dysfunctional Jets do not want him.

It's not the Jets......it's the PC NFL that doesn't wants strong, white, devout Christian male.......see how this works....jets draft a black QB and immediately release Tebow......sends a message to the kids doesn't it. These are the same folks that let a white kid who ran a 4.28 at the combine sit around until the 6th round while slower black WRs were drafted

Or Tebow just sucks at being a quarterback. Not sure what race has to do with anything.

At the end of the day, I always check the score board in sports.

    Tebow's NFL Record = 8-4

That is REALLY good for a young quarterback... REALLY GOOD!

He should go to the CFL where he will be a beast with the wider fields. He can develop his passing game and see if he can't re-enter the NFL. Or some team like the Raiders will pick him up which will be a circus.

Yea the hatred of white QBs in the NFL is alarming isn't it.

Out of the 11 QBs drafted this year how many of them were white?

Also name the 5 highest paid QBs in the league.

The Jets dropped Tebow for Geno Smith?...lmao!

Boy the Jets simply were doing anything to add axe Tebow. They even kept Phil Simms kid as 1 of their 5 QBs over Tebow. And that kid ain't gonna see the field.

Plain and simple truth: Jets wanted Tebow gone. Geno Smith isn't that good. He was good compared to this years crop of QBs, but that ain't sayin much. Especially, considering they drafted McElroy who is by far their best backup now to Sanchez.

If the Jets couldn't find a spot for Tebow, then why in God's name did they just draft a running QB, who doesn't even have the skill sets Tebow had? Smith is a scrambling QB just like Tebow, only he doesn't have the track record to convert that to wins. And he sure as hell isn't a RGIII.

So once again Jets fans, WTF is your team doing here, besides finding an exit for the 1 player they were dying to get rid of?....lol

Really? he sucks. Won two national championships, was the first Sophomore to ever win the Heisman, was first team all american 2x, took the brancos from a dismal start to making the playoffs, beating the steelers in the first round.

Have you seen Mark Sanchez's stats? Worst rated QB in the league. The Jets just make poor choices, and stupid mistakes.

    But yea, Tebow sucks.

I was just looking at SI.com and the other 31 teams in the NFL are all trying to sign Tebow to a multi-year contract.

Also Tebow is a gold mine. People will watch him. If he does well, they will continue to watch him, if not, the jets go back to their crappy ass ratings they alays get.

The jets will always play 2nd fiddle to the Giants. They were worried Tebow would start a game, start winning for the Jets and then they would have no choice but to keep him. They are stupid

Tebow will NOT play starting QB in the NFL anytime in the near future.

EVERY team in the NFL has more than 4+ QB's on their rosters currently.

Tebow needs to go play in Canada for a few seasons if he wants ANY chance to get better and be a starting QB in the NFL.

Oh, and he needs to fire his brother as his manager. His brother is doing a awful job at managing Tim.

BS, he is not a bible thumper when it come to the game.
No more than hundreds of other players that cross themselves after scoring or pointing to the sky.
Hate all you want, I just wish he would come to the Redskins and back up stick figure RGIII.

Thank god my beloved Broncos got out of that Tebow nightmare McDaniels created.

Great kid. But he is an awful QB at the pro level.

He should be a FB or a TE.

I don't think the guy was given a fair shot at anything. 8-4 Rookie-Sophmore

But, now he will likely end in CFL.

Tim... you are a stand up guy!

Indeed, apparently he sucks so bad the Jets would rather have someone else as quarterback.

Now apparently it is not just me thinking this. It would appear the Jets coaching staff is in agreement.

He also has a career quarterback rating of 75.3, less than 50% completions, 14 fumbles with 6 of them lost, and 9 interceptions.

    Yeah, he sucks.
