He is doing relative good overall. He just needs to shut his mouth about it.

Shutting his mouth would be an improvement

But half a million infected and 23,000 dead is NOT "doing relative good"

It's not an insane claim, he can do it if he wants, but he won't. Just as he claimed he could fire Mueller if he wanted to, but he didn't.
That is true, he runs his mouth too much sometimes.

The word “Sometimes” snuck onto the end of your last sentence there. Was that on purpose?

He doesn't do it every time so there had to be some sort of disclaimer in there. But I'm sure you disagree with that and feel he is running his mouth 100% of the time. :)

Nah, I wouldn’t say 100% of the time. He manages to come off as respectable when he’s got a teleprompter in front of him, assuming he sticks to the words as written. He just tends to fail when he’s personally responsible for his own words.

“I don’t take responsibility at all.”
-The President of The United States, apparently.

He can assume temporary powers under martial law. But I don't foresee him doing anything like stealing homes from an ethnic group, for example Japanese, and then throwing them in some sort of concentration camp.

I can’t quote the president without providing a written essay documenting the events leading up to that quote? I said Trump says stupid things when unprompted. I provided a quote of a stupid and unpresidential thing he said. What’s the problem?

He answered a direct question by a so called reporter asking him if he felt responsible for the response to COVID19.

Trump has no power or authority to reverse the governors executive orders to shut down non-essential businesses and organizations and require social distancing.

All Trump can do is Sue in court if he likes but he has no authority

    Trump takes no responsibility.

    He's told us that

As the President he is responsible for everything that happens in his administration. It was stupid, though not uncharacteristic, for him to not understand that.

    “The buck stops... somewhere else.”
-The President of The United States, probably.

(Note, that quote was a joke. I would never expect the President to say something so self-aware.)

I love it how Trump's supporters believe all the President has to do is declare an "emergency" and all of the sudden he is dictator.

I can't believe I didn't notice this right away, and I see that none of you noticed it either:

Trump's "threat" to use his "total authority" is not a threat to use his power to curtail liberties, but rather to restore them. If he makes good on his "threat" to reopen the country, people will again be free to assemble. It's the exact opposite of tyranny, of despotism, of authoritarianism.

I don't know that even Trump realized just how innocuous his "threat" was.

Notice too that he answered the question "What if the governor's don't agree" with "I'd like to see them run for office on that." In other words, he is only predicting political fallout, not threatening to send in storm troopers to arrest the governors.

It's quite different from what the self-important media is saying that it is.

    So...
Does Trump have the authority to shut down the states - close the schools and businesses and order people to stay home - or not?

    Absent the benefit of hindsight...
What should have he done, when, and why?

Put together a real pandemic task force...IN JANUARY.

Have them marshal the resources and PREPARE for this calamity.

    He did nothing

    Nonsense.

He was claiming he had the authority to countermand orders coming from State Officials

Funny how your response lacks specifics and real-time justification.
