So... Does Trump have the authority to shut down the states - close the schools and businesses and order people to stay home - or not?
Nope...but he certainly could have recommend it...like he did with Florida. Florida shut down right after he did that Of course THAT only happened what...last week?

So you agree: Trump did not close down the states because he does not have the power to close down the states. Why then do you continue to complain about Trump not closing down the states sooner? http://www.politicalforum.com/index...-ban-with-china.570950/page-3#post-1071597866
Did you notice the DATES? Your timeline ends January 31. What did Trump do during the next 6 weeks...besides golf and hold rallies with thousands of people packed into arenas? What did that task force do? nuffin
Didn't read the whole thread. Love the armchair Constitutional lawyering from our LW brain trust on this topic, whom I am sure are all well familiar with the MANY watershed civil liberties cases, federal sovereignty cases, etc. etc. by citation. <SNORT> If any reasonable adults are interested, this is a very relevant discussion right now, start up a thread on it. I'm not doing it in this thread though. TLDR, YES, TRUMP DOES HAVE ABSOLUTE AUTHORITY WITH RESPECT TO OPENING THE COUNTRY. FACT. POTUS has extremely broad authority bearing on civil rights. BOR... Takings, 4th, 5th...Commerce clause, 14th Amendment, maybe 13th Amendment, Privacy, etc. etc.... and a MOUNTAIN of other federal powers crafted under Civil Rights. But one of the most amusing aspects of the inevitable squabbles with authoritarian Democrat governors will be comparisons to GEORGE WALLACE blocking black students from school enrollment. Another will be the HILARIOUS result of watching LW DEFEND STATE'S RIGHTS (will THEY be "Dog Whistling" to racists when they do? ROFL) via the toothless 10th Amendment HAHAHAHAHAA. HOOT for sure. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stand_in_the_Schoolhouse_Door So yeah, Democrats, get ready to watch Democrat racists repress blacks over and over again in newsreels... 6 months from the election... Do you think your lame rationalizations and lies about BS like a "Southern Strategy" or "Party Switch" or horseshit lies like "but those were the -conservative- racists" will save you? NOPE! ROFLMFAO. IT'S GONNA BE GREAT!

Did you actually READ what you posted? "Was prepared to" "Had a team ready to.." They did NOTHING Oh and Abject FAILURE. WHO tests were AVAILABLE and nowhere in that list was there a request for them When we should have been testing tens of thousands in March...we were testing hundreds. You provided a record of chaos and failure
March 4: The Trump Administration announced the purchase of approximately 500 million N95 respirators over the next 18 months to respond to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. MARCH FOURTH!!!! Almost six weeks after Trump realized this was serious enough to stop flights from China...
You are -painfully- aware of the fact your statement is not true. So, you now that you have the list of what Trump did form Jan 1 to March 15: Specifically, and w/o the benefit of hindsight, what else should he have done, when should he have done it, and why?
You have the list of what Trump did form Jan 1 to March 15: Specifically, and w/o the benefit of hindsight, what else should he have done, when should ha have done it, and why?
The fact you know your statement is false aside.... Specifically, and w/o the benefit of hindsight, what else should he have done, when should he have done it, and why?
A little too little a little too late. Back when Trump was telling us the virus would blow over, the governors of Washington (where the virus first appeared in the US) , Oregon, and California began to stop public gatherings, to shut down schools, and to promote social distancing and other protective measures. To screen those arriving at the airport. Thus the virus has been mostly contained on the West Coast while it is still exploding in the Rust Belt. The biggest problem states have been having, is in accessing material and equipment from from Federal resources. It is like with the hurricane in Puerto Rico, where Trump did nothing, other than a few cursery lines for the camera, expecting the problem to take care of itself. That is how he has been approaching the Corona Virus. Ignore it enough and maybe it will go away. Television stations have stopped broadcasting his daily briefings because they tend to be full of faulty and misleading information. And they always end up with him do his typical hate filled bull#@&. Trump is no leader. This virus, like everything else, just shows how weak and ineffective of a leader Trump is. This virus is being defeated with the leadership of governors, not Trump, the president of low expectations.
It's a good thing the United States has Ron on their legal team. Judging by your posts, I can see your vast legal experience.
I read the Constitution, you should try it sometime. its pretty clear what authority President does and does not have.
While Trump may be able to exercise authority in this matter, having him brag about it makes him appear ...
I think it is his detractors who have been claiming he is supposed to order the states and cities on what they should be doing and controlling those situations.
