From the citation on the part of yourself: The Justice Department confirmed that a proposed rule to ban bump stocks was sent late last week to the Office of Management and Budget for review. After a review that could last up to 90 days, the proposal will be published in the Federal Register, inviting public comment. Nothing is actually being done, other than putting forth the proposal for public comment. If the public opposes the rule, the federal government will have little choice but to walk back the proposal and abandon the idea entirely.
Then why are these groups not, at this very moment, making widespread use of such devices? Explain such.
The anti-gun left had not heard of bump stocks until the LV shootings. Their reactionary nature immediately produced a cacophony of screams to ban them.
I wound never put a bump stock on any firearm. I think they are a cheap gimmick. That said, I don’t like giving an inch.
I'm pleased with the banning of bump stocks. Paddock had the money to go outside of paper and normal retail channels to purchase the most sophisticated automatic weapons available. And he probably could have gotten 20, 30, or 40mm launchers. For whatever reasons he didn't. A heart too stony to get outside the envelope I guess.
I disagree with how they are doing it. If it were by a law, I'd be happy with it. I'm against this being done by executive order.
No circumventing the law, it's following the law as written to the letter. As I've said before, I have no problem with a law banning bump stocks (or trigger cranks). I'm against them being banned by an executive order. We have a Constitution that requires making laws, not allowing the President to enact his wishes by a pen.
Terrorists already have automatic weapons that they buy through jihadists. Criminals do also--the Mexican cartels uses the Mexican army to buy guns for them.
no Executive Order required. bump stocks circumvent existing law which bans the sale or possession or manufacture of automatic weapons for civilian use after 1986.
if we add automatic weapons to the market criminals will have an easier time getting their hands on them
What is taking them so long? They were legal under Barack Obama, what opportunity are they waiting for? Beyond that particular matter, what will prevent their misuse at a later point down the line, long after they have been purchased?
