So much for that branding of the shutdown on Schumer. This is the first time in US history that a shutdown has occurred when the same party controlled the House, the Senate, and the Presidency.

And polling data further supports the notion that Republicans, and Trump specifically, will bear the blame for the shutdown. And for good reason, because, like Trump said in 2013,

"A shutdown occurs when the President is bad at his job."

Sure, that was one example of Obama being bad at his job (granted, that particular shutdown was wholly orchestrated and caused by Ted Cruz, if I recall correctly).

Trump is just a great deal worse.

How many Republican senators voted against the continuing resolution?

Trump shows a profound ignorance of the way the Senate and indeed the government is supposed to work. He seems to want to force the Republican agenda on the rest of the country, without any Democratic support.

Another option is to come up with legislation that appeals to both parties. Reach across the aisle. Compromise.

But that kind of an approach is anathema to Trump. He is a bully and expects to get his way with no compromise. So much for the great deal-maker.

It's funny - Senators came to him with a bipartisan proposal that would have passed in the Senate, and he killed it.

IMHO the Senate should have voted on that proposal anyway and sent it to the House. If the House passed it, Trump would have had to formally veto it.

Who really cares what this fool bellows on Twitter!

Trump told House and Senate leaders two weeks ago to bring him a deal on DACA and he would "take the hit".

So, they made the mistake of taking Donald Trump at his word.

Trump immediately went back on his commitments and renounced the deal, and then went on a tirade of open bigotry that shocked the whole world.

First, the President made it clear that he is not a man of his word (which should come as no surprise to anyone).

Second, he once again, disgraced himself, his office and his nation before the entire world, all to play to the bigotry of his minority base.

Third, he failed to indicate any sort of counter offer, or communicate what would be acceptable, as Senator McConnell pointed out this week.

The GOP had not trouble delivering a giant wet kiss to Wall Street less than a month ago, without a single Democratic vote.

This week, he was set to go to Mar A Lago to collect the payoffs.

But his own weakness and his unwillingness to show leadership or take responsibility. have delivered a government shutdown, which he will own.

He would have tried to sit on it, as he did with the Russian sanctions bill.

Yes, he knows nothing about government.

He has zero experience in working with large groups with multiple moving parts. He has never served on a committee, or a Board.

I disagree that he just wants to force a far right wing agenda. That would be Meadows and Cruz.

Trump wants to be the center of attention. He governs by cable TV news. His attention span is shorter than a television news cycle.

Government stops because Dems want millions of 'shithole' residents imported and paid for.

America sees the issue and Trump has put it front and center again, over and over.

Awww, democrats had to shutdown the government to protect illegal aliens. After obama told them to vote it would be another legacy gone if they got deported.

Word soup. Weak gruel, no substance.

Yes, he knows nothing about government.

A throw away line. The man's been president for a year, he knows about government now. Familiar from both sides now. Silly comment.

He has zero experience in working with large groups with multiple moving parts. He has never served on a committee, or a Board.

This is just a bold faced lie. Zero experience with groups? Are you freaking living in a cave? Never served on a board? Tom, you're in the weeds babbling about nothing.

Trump wants to be the center of attention. He governs by cable TV news. His attention span is shorter than a television news cycle.

So, BS and BS. You're taking a typing classs, right? You just type whatever drivel comes to mind to get the pecking practice. Am I right?

Seriously Tom, why waste the time. There's noting here to maturely discuss.
