U.S. Church Membership Falls Below Majority for First Time

I know I am supposed to shiver at the thought that my neighbors will be named Atif, Faiz, or Ghazi instead of Joseph, Mary or Simon. That's not happening.
What do you suppose it is that is making Islam the marketplace winner of ideas in the west that Christianity, Judaism could mimic to get their pews filling, the youth more engaged etc? They must be doing something right, providing a more nurturing environment, filling a spiritual void. Maybe we have something to learn from them.

 

No the new religion does not give a damn about anything but harming (up to and including murder) those who disagree. Two wokesters flat out murdered people last year and the response of the woke crowd was jubilation and triumph. If I was ambitious I would look them up for you but it would be a pointless waste of time and effort on my part. Try to reply to my content. What is it that Islam is doing right to better compete for the hearts, the imaginations, and the spiritual lives in Western cultures. What are the weaknesses in Christianity and judaism that this faith is able exploit, to win converts in an environment where religious faith is waning? It seems this is an opportunity for Christians to reflect on what they have been consistently failing at and learn to adapt to compete.

 

The aren't converting anybody, they are simply moving from the Middle East to the West and setting up parallel societies and having massive numbers of children. In Great Britain they appear dislike to whites. They have had Muslim rape gangs that target white children/teens. It is my belief that to reach people (their minds, heart and soul), you need to speak to them in ways that make sense to them. And it is always best to speak to people in ways that they can relate to their own lives. The reality is that our world has changed and continues to change - therefore, messages should also change. I realize that many will disagree with this idea, as is their right. They will contend that God has not changed - His Word has not changed. But churches are responsible for delivering that Word, and if they don't find relevant ways to do that, they will lose people.

The Greed is Good Gospel promulgated by BOTH the Immoral Majority and the Q-GOP in the 1980's has had long ranging impacts on the Christian religion. Moderates have not wanted to be associated with the messaging of hate against gays and abortion and even those that remained were subjected to the loss of income that the Greed based legislation enabled by offshoring jobs that used to pay living wages and benefits.

The church preached support for those policies while it suffered a steady loss of membership and income. That was temporarily stalled during the 1990's economic boom but the downward trend resumed in 2000 and took a major hit with the Q-GOP collapse of the economy in 2008. Instead of siding with the faithful the evangelical preachers doubled down and turned up the hatred against Obama thereby exacerbating the situation and causing more people do disassociate themselves from the church. Younger members wanted nothing whatsoever to do with it and found themselves being treated as outcasts because they refused to remain.

So it wasn't that the churches failed to find a relevant way of delivering the message but that they adopted political messaging instead and that has become their downfall.

 

Undoubtedly there is a ton of church property that will be going on the market. Alot of it actually sits in residential zones because in the 1930's when municipal zoning codes were gaining ground, they were seen as entirely consistent with the residential vision, people walked to church and such communities were more homogenized by faith. But what does one do with that besides raze the building, and cut it up into small parcels for single family zoning or under special permit for a large multifamily dwelling. You could use it for special needs housing Some of it falls under institutional building coding similar to govt buildings or schools. Someone is going to make some money buying this prime property up and converting it.

 

I think politics is replacing religion for many in the US.
