Interesting. They both have an interest. China a big one for oil and India a way to the Pacific.
I notice in typical Chinese fashion China wants the new silk road to make a port and pipeline in Burma. They amaze me with their long term planning.

For over three decades India wanted a blue water navy. A blue water navy requires forward naval bases to support a blue water navy.

But according to "Janes" and the U.S. Naval Institute, Indians might may have well developed brain housing groups but Indians make lousy sailors.

Kinda looks like India has dropped out on the bidding with Vietnam for establishing a forward naval base at Kam Ranh Bay that the U.S. Navy, the Chi-Com PLA-Navy and Putin's navy are all negotiating with the Hanoi government for.

War clouds have been forming over the Western Pacific for two decades now. There's going to be a big naval war in the Western Pacific.

    Time line...24 years ???

Most of the fighting will take place in the South China Sea, Sea of Japan and the Micronesian Islands basically where U.S. Navy and Marines fought during WW ll.

The Royal Navy first super carrier the HMS Queen Elizabeth is scheduled to be forward deployed in the Western Pacific working with the U.S. Navy's 7th Fleet.

The Australians are rebuilding their army navy and air force and has just commissioned it first Australian Marine battalions.

There's an arms race going on in the Western Pacific and everyone is getting ready for war.

The big unanswered question is...who side will the Russians be on ?

Who side will India be on since India has been in bed with the Russians for decades.

Why did President Obama take his eyes off the Western Pacific for seven years and then pivoted when it was to late ?

The Chi-Coms militarized the South China Sea under Obama's watch.

Why did Obama allowed out Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force to deteriorate that we see today. All of the four chiefs of our military branches of service said it will take from 22 years to 28 years to repair the damage Obama inflicted on our military.

It's not even a question. It's going to be the Americans.

The only country more worried about China than Japan is: Vietnam.

(Well and Taiwan but let me have my hyperbole, and maybe North Korea but this is starting to sound less and less like an interesting point.)

China and India are both interested in power in that region.

If you look up at their military build-ups its mostly focused on Naval power and rapid transport of goods and troops.

Something they both severely lack in.

Its kind of funny when the left keeps thinking China is waiting for our troops to leave so they can take SK when that is probably the furthest thing from their mind.

The goal is influence in the South China Sea and access to its economic benefits as well as resources.

Its really the only region in that area that they can expand into.

The US will whine a little bit but we don't care enough about it to put up much of a fight.

It isn't a plan to take over militarily but that presence could give them more influence.

    That's the theory anyways.

Another military base to add to the 800 or so other bases we have - Just what the fiscal irresponsibility doctor ordered. Meanwhile, India just slapped counter tariffs on the US in Trump's global Trade war.

Good move by India to get astride the main shipping lane where Chinese merchant ships to EU must pass. The US keeps warships in this region but we don't have use of a local base. Maybe we can share with the Indians?

Does this answer your question about Russia?

In April, Beijing sent a delegation to Russia to show Washington the unity of Russian and Chinese military forces and “support” Russia at the 7th Moscow Conference on International Security. Chinese Defense Minister Wei Fenghe, who arrived with the delegation, stated that “the Chinese side came to let the Americans know about the close ties between the Russian and Chinese armed forces.”

China is non aggressive, and is concerned only with trade. It began its silk roads out of fear of our 7th fleet in the Pacific blocking its cargo ships, thus its close relations with Moscow. The more Washington threatens Russia in Eastern Europe and on its southern flanks, the closer the ties between Russia and China.

One has to wonder where Washington's brains are?

America needs a Richard M. Nixon right now.

In the past 120 years in America, President Nixon was the best President when it came to geopolitics.

Nixon's visit to China in 1972 was a Cold War strategy to drive a wedge between Soviet-Sino relationship and was a genius geopolitical move that worked. It made President Reagan's job a whole lot easier to win the Cold War.

Now Vladimir Putin is a master at geopolitics.

Obama played checkers for eight years and last week on the Geopolitical chessboard in Singapore President Trump used the Trump Gambit opening up negotiations with North Korea.

Has Putin met his match ?

Actually we should not interfere in the Chinese playing nice with the Russians. Its all part of China's plan to eat Siberia and take it from Russia by stealth means.

You have been lied to. India seeks to protect its own interests in her home region and push back against Chinese aggression and expansion into the Indian Ocean.

and you are dreaming, thinking a country as big as india don't have ambitions. any rising power will have its own interest. to india, that means, india ocean. india is like how china in 80s, where we sold weapons to china in order for them to counter USSR.

also we have more ship transit /bases in india ocean than China have.

I didn't say India doesn't have ambitions. One of their ambitions is to deny China hegemony in the Indian Ocean.

And who is this we you speak of?

we as US, i'm an American remember, their ambition is to get rid of both US and China out of its backyard. right now US has more bases and ship transit in the region than china. China India dispute mainly on land border near Himalayan. Don't be surprise 10-20 years from now, they doing the same as china doing today in ScS.

    Cheers!
I really don't see that happening unless India changes to a totalitarian form of government more like China's. And of course the USN will only get more powerful as the naval arms race with China proceeds. We won't be pushed out any part of the seven seas.

it has nothing to do with totalitarian form of government, as the nation economy raise so does their interest in world wide, to protect those interest they need a good military. eventually there will be a conflict of interest between current dominate power and the rising power. If China is democratic, they still would have interest in powerful military, influence in SCS, they still would expand. nationalism in china or india are high they will likely elect a hard liner rather then a moderate.

I don't agree with any conclusion that posits India wishes to exclude other powers from the Indian Ocean. I think that China does wish to exclude other powers from transiting the South China Sea. India and China are different in this respect. At any rate the USN will retain the whip hand in both places.

China vs India. All out. They could both use a little population reduction.
