In reading this thread I saw someone brought up the private donation made to repair the Washington monument - apparently to claim donations to the US Treasury are not applied to the public debt. Well be aware that Congress passed a special allocation/law allowing a monument only donation of private funds. Obviously there is nothing in pace allowing public funds to be applied to a wall that does not exist. So yes donations if provided to the Government for a wall, will not fund a wall.

Dec 12, 2018 · The Bottom Line: Walls Work. When it comes to stopping drugs and illegal aliens across our borders, border walls have proven to be extremely effective. Border security relies on a combination of border infrastructure, technology, personnel and partnerships with law enforcement at the state, local, tribal, and federal level.

Oh, and Border Security and US Customs.

Why do “Walls Work”? Check out this video from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for the answers to that question. It explains the need for new and replacement barriers along the U.S. southern border and the benefits of this infrastructure.

Then ask the question if walls "short in length and heavily fortified" are effective.

Its evident that they are. Still I did like the example going back to Bilbo Clinton and what they did around San Diego with just a fence and how illegal crossings dropped to damn near Zero.

Even better is when they pointed out how illegals go for the more dangerous routes where their is less security and the deaths that take place trying to cross.

    Here is the Re Counter.

That is why many countries have them.

Border walls are surprisingly common. Two-thirds of the world’s people live in countries that protect their borders with a wall or fence. Governments build these barriers because they are an effective way to keep people out.

Many critics of Donald Trump’s proposed border wall think walls don’t work—or at least would not work at the Mexican border. Senator Nancy Pelosi opposes what she calls “an immoral, ineffective, and expensive border wall.” Former DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano says: “You show me a 50-foot wall, and I’ll show you a 51-foot ladder.” Another former DHS Secretary, Michael Chertoff, opposes “a fence which someone can climb over with a ladder or tunnel under with a shovel.” Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas says, “A physical wall would be ineffective.”

These people are wrong. Walls have a very impressive record.

However, we can approach the effectiveness of the fence from a different perspective. The border with Mexico is 1,954 miles long and there are only 652 miles of fence. The fence has been built where the border was easiest to cross, but some illegal immigrants go around the fence to cross in more difficult areas. The Border Patrol is not catching all illegal immigrants. However, the presence of more agents at the border should mean that people who cross the border illegally are more likely to be caught—which increases figures for apprehensions.

If a border fence were not a deterrent at all, it would not reduce the number of border crossers. If, at the same time, patrols were increased, we would expect a rise in apprehensions, because more people would be caught. What actually happened between 2005 and 2016 was fence construction, more patrols, and fewer apprehensions. This is strong evidence that the fence sharply reduced the number of illegal crossings even while those who did cross were more likely to be caught. Completing the fence would presumably cut illegal crossings even further......snip~

Then note all the countries where they show Walls and Fences that Work. Naturally with many of those countries they have no qualms about using deadly force.

i can provide more links why the wall is not worth it. bottom line, drones with a rapid response team is far less expensive and more efficient.

I already mentioned drones as part of border security along with personnel. What walls and fences do is control the flow as to where the people can cross.

That is what the links you gave me....fails to point out.

Again.....the examples shown where there is security. The crossings decrease in those areas.

It is my understanding that several years ago congress passed legislation that would build physical border security, whether you call it a fence or a wall. But it was never funded enough to actually do as the legislation dictated. So, you can pass legislation, and make it look to the people who are concerned about illegal immigration that you just did something and tried to address the problem, and yet you insured nothing was done, by refusing to fund it. Clever, huh? And they have had plenty of time, with both parties controlling congress at some point in time, and yet...nothing.

So if we are gonna get a wall or a high fence, looks like the people who are concerned will have to do a Go Fund Me, or something similar in order to get the funds.

Of course congress would have to agree to it. ha ha ha

    Not...gonna...happen.

Stick your big toe into the river of reality, the water is fine!

Neither party has really had any intention of stopping illegal immigration. There is an old saw that says, "the proof is in the pudding". Another one says, "actions speak louder than words".

Those old saws state reality. The reality is, neither party is gonna do what is needed to stop illegal immigration. They are feckless, on purpose.

Well I did work for the Treasury Dept. for many years and was involved in preparing Federal budgets and the Capital Planning and Investment Process at the Department level for Treasury and likewise for DHS for many years, so I am guessing I know far more about the Federal budget process than you do.

What is the point of your snarky comment?

No. When a round peg doesn't fit in a square hole you ****ed up and got the wrong peg. They make square pegs for that sort of thing. Plus the hammer I'm this situation is murder . . . so congrats on supporting a felony to prevent a misdemeanor I guess?

Could be. This forum may be a sting to make a list. Certainly using the Internet creates the potential to be on a list. I use a VPN, but my VPN company is probably a sting.:?
