It’s heller, not holder. And the heller ruling actually precludes virtually everything Virginia is trying to do. You can’t ban an entire class of weapon, which is in common use. “Assault type weapons” are the most popular and owned firearms in the US. They can not be banned.

 

Everything proposed violates the second amendment in the constitution, as well as the Virginia state constitution.

It was the people of Virginia who just elected legislators precisely because they want these gun laws. That's the whole point, ffs. Sucks to be in a minority, but there you are.

Mental health is the issue, put more funding into state run programs for mentally unwell make them easier to find. It's simple you quit taking care of your citizens issues like this arise. Taking guns does nothing to address the real problem imo

 

You take a mentally unwell person's right to a gun but how many out there are driving 4,000 lb vehicles at 60 mph right now?

Address the real problems and don't cut corners by doing things like taking guns......

One of the benefits of having laws like these is that states have competition. If a resident doesn't like the laws, there are lots of other states to choose instead. The problems occur when they do this nonsense at the federal level.

 

In our divided climate, each 'side' feels the same way.

I understand its frustrating for so many fascists who could care less what the Constitution says but it all work itself out in the end.

Your opinion is shared by far more people than you may realize.
I worked in Virginia's grossly underfunded Mental Health system for 10 years and frequently had to use my own money to help the mentally ill individuals on my caseload.
My experience during that time & since has been that determined & violent people who are mentally ill are entirely undeterred by new laws or old ones.

Unfortunately, Virginia's current Bloomberg - Northam administration is in no way interested in curtailing criminal behavior or else they would devote all of their existing efforts to confiscate personal property to making mental health care more affordable and accessible.
Their gun control schemes are simply a dishonest evasion of their responsibility to truly make their constituents safer by focusing on cheap and easy gun bans rather than doing the hard work and committing the funds to treat our underserved mentally ill members of society

 

Carpetbagging liberals have a tendency to ruin a state, move onto another state, take it over, ruin it, and repeat the process.

And then they wonder why no one in they states they move to like them.

 

This is what happens when you infringe upon the rights of people who can fight back.
There's no wonder the Democrats seek to reduce or eliminate the ability of the people to fight back.
