And the people of NY and MT do not vote in the electoral college, so the fact remains: People in MT do not vote in NY elections, and vice-versa, so this comparison cannot be soundly drawn.

it isn't about majority of people, it's about heavily populated states ruling over lesser populated states... we are a republic, which gives each state a say... without the ec more than half of our states would fall by the wayside...
Then why do we bother wasting the money for a coast to coast presidential election which doesn't ever elect anyone???Waste of taxpayer money.And while I'm at it why do we vote on antiquated voting machines which are easily hacked and most do not create any kind of paper count backup.We should be voting on modern PC terminals or smart phones connected to a central CPU with a mirror image backup running in tandem in case one goes down and each state should have it's own unique sign on code to facilitate the different polling times across the states.We still vote like a third world banana republic.
