I truly understand what you are saying, Zoom.

Unfortunately, people like Kim and Trump are not especially concerned with who will suffer more. Their egos are what is driving them.

And if North Korea suffered 10,000,000 casualties compared with only 5,000,000 for South Korea...I doubt anyone would consider that a moral victory.

    Could be.

But the fact that the world's mightiest military force was not able to deal a more debilitating blow to a single airstrip in a tiny country almost in chaos by civil war...should be troubling for anyone hearing about it.

It's not like NK gonna bomb the NY, right, duuuuude..

What the fυcked kind of moral twist it takes to consider it being normal for other people to pay with THEIR LIVES for your pathetic neocolonial ambitions?

A few casualties is an understatement. What you don't seem to have grasped is that any conflict would be asymmetrical. The US would make every effort to minimise NK civilian casualties. The US would target military targets. NK would target civilian populations. Seoul would be flattened.

The idea that the US could wipe out NK military capability in 24 hours is delusional.

I'd be willing to bet that I won't come to war. I don't think China feels the same way as Trump.

If Seoul is flattened, as will Pyongyang, and if attack does happen we will see, 24 hrs may be a stretch, but in the end the NK will be far more devastated afaic.

Ninian, fact...in 4 short years people on the west coast of USA or in Hawaii could be obliterated. What are YOU going to do then? Because even your love letters to Jong un will be ignored

Well maybe Kim should consider quitting trying TO hit the US with his toys? Speaking of "colonialism, seems the russkis are trying the same thing, Syria, Ukraine, georgia, so I wouldn't talk!

I'm not. What was discussed between Xi and Trump just a few days ago?...not how to use a wok lol. My guess is without evidence that China refused to assist Trump with any conflict BUT would be ready to aid the future post war famine and rebuild. Maybe that is realistic?

I'm sure that will be a great comfort to the hundreds of thousands, possibly millions of Koreans who lose their lives while Trump plays at being a bully.

So many people point to incompetance of the Syrian airfield strike. Do you really believe Trump intended to close that airbase operations? Not at all, it was merely a warning.

I suppose if your mr Un, you're feeling the screws tightening. Chinese troops mean locking down the northern boarder. The US fleet means loss of air superiority and mobile threat of nuclear options.

At some point, he blinks, or he lashes out like the unfettered child he has shown he can be.

I'm going to assume you are just kidding here.

You do not deliver a warning with an airstrike that causes so little damage that planes are flying missions almost immediately. You do not deliver a warning with 60 Tomahawk missiles...that do relatively little damage.

Possibly although I think that kind of speculation is perhaps a bit premature but then again things do happen

An you guys tell me please, your strategy in 4 years time. 4 years from now NK has sent two nuclear warheads one to Hawaii and one to Seattle. Come on, you have one hour to consider if you have a will prepared?? Get to it now, wont be long. Oh, and NK's ancient subs that also have missles pop up in New York waters.

You underestimate the capabilities and abilities if the US armed forces that spend mega hours studying this stuff and know very well the power or lack thereof of their weapons. We also dont know syrategies eg they might well know that international support would wain if Trump flattened that airbase. What did he ask after those missiles landed "we ask that civilised nations join with us...." or something to that effect.
They know what they are doing!

Can you suggest a solution? No amount of diplomacy will stop North Korea from developing it's nuclear weapons.

North Korea's economy will suffer as it's trade is restricted through China.

    What are the options?

Colonialism? Are you kidding me? The days of imperialism and colonialism are long gone. This is about securing world peace from some delusional psycho that just said YESTERDAY that he wants to nuke the ****ing United States. Are we just supposed to let him exist?

As far as casualties in South Korea.... nobody can know what will happen. I feel bad for the South Koreans, but we are doing everything we can to minimize that with anti-missile defenses. None of us are on the inside of the intelligence community. We don't know what the USA and it's allies know or don't know about the North Korean military capabilities and locations of their weapons.

Yes, the United States military is highly trained. Not a bunch of "keyboard pushers," like was stated by someone earlier.

Can you, or anyone, suggest an alternative?

Let's not forget that the root of the problem is that North Korea is led by a crazy person with nukes. Donald Trump is not the root of the problem. And would Hilary Clinton have let NK develop those long-range nukes capable of destroying California? No. She probably would have been laughed at by the Chinese.

I don't think it is wise to poke the bear; I think President Trump is playing a dangerous game where the pawns will be nuclear weapons.
Kim Jong-un is a ruthless opponent who does not consider the lives of his own people or others.

Well you covered it in more detail than I could. All sound plausible. I was just going to say Trump would start bombing them unless they give up their nukes.

He would need Congressional authorisation. Because attacking Korea would definitely be starting a war.

Well the alternative is to have missiles, or missile capable of reaching west coast of usa somewhere and causing massive damage, and the consequences of that is open to interpretation after that.

Sounds reasonable. Sure, clean it out for China to take over. Maybe Trump has made a deal with China. We will do the dirty work and you can have the spoils.
